Event Overview

RoboSoccer is a technical competition in which teams design, build, and operate robots to compete in a football-style match. The objective is to score goals against the opposing team while demonstrating effective robot design, control, strategy, technical innovation, and teamwork.

The competition shall be conducted according to these RoboSoccer Rules & Regulations together with the Official Terms & Conditions of Techno Vision 2026.

Eligibility & Registration

  • Participation is open to eligible students as specified by the Techno Vision 2026 organizers.
  • Each team shall consist of 2–4 participants, unless otherwise announced by the organizers.
  • Each team must nominate one member as the Team Captain.
  • A participant may represent only one team in the RoboSoccer competition.
  • Participants must provide accurate information during registration.
  • Registration shall be considered confirmed only after completion of the prescribed registration process/payment, where applicable.
  • Participants may be required to carry a valid college/student ID during the event.
  • The organizers reserve the right to verify the eligibility of any participant or team.
  • The organizers may reject or cancel a registration if the participant/team fails to satisfy the eligibility requirements.

Robot Specifications

Maximum Robot Size

  • Length: 50 cm
  • Width: 50 cm
  • Height: 30 cm
  • Weight: 3 kg

Dimensions

  • The maximum permitted robot dimensions are 50 cm × 50 cm × 30 cm (Length × Width × Height).
  • The complete robot, including all permanently or temporarily attached components, must remain within the specified dimensions during technical inspection and gameplay.
  • Any movable, extendable, or deployable mechanism must also comply with the applicable dimensional restrictions during gameplay.
  • Teams may be asked to demonstrate that their robot remains within the permitted dimensions.

Weight

  • The maximum permitted robot weight is 3 kg.
  • The weight shall include the complete competition-ready robot, including:
  • Batteries
  • Motors
  • Wheels
  • Sensors
  • Controllers
  • Communication modules
  • Wiring
  • Attachments
  • Other onboard components
  • A robot exceeding the 3 kg limit shall not be permitted to compete until it complies with the requirement.
  • The organizers may weigh robots before or during the competition.

Robot Design & Safety

  • Teams are responsible for the design, construction, and safe operation of their robots.
  • Robots must not contain weapons or mechanisms designed to injure people or deliberately damage another robot.
  • The following are strictly prohibited:
  • Explosives
  • Flammable or hazardous substances
  • Projectiles intended to harm or damage
  • Dangerous cutting mechanisms
  • High-risk mechanisms that may cause injury
  • Any other equipment prohibited by the organizers
  • Robots must not intentionally damage the playing field, goals, barriers, or event equipment.
  • Robots must have a safe and stable construction suitable for competition.
  • The organizers may prohibit any mechanism that they consider unsafe, even if it is not specifically listed above.
  • The safety decision of the technical inspection team shall be final.

Robot Technical Inspection

  • All robots may undergo a technical inspection before entering the competition.
  • Inspection may include:
  • Dimensions
  • Weight
  • Battery and power system
  • Mechanical components
  • Communication system
  • Control system
  • Safety features
  • Compliance with prohibited-equipment rules
  • A robot failing inspection must be modified to comply with the rules before participation.
  • The organizers may conduct a re-inspection at any stage of the competition.
  • A team deliberately attempting to conceal a violation may be disqualified.
  • Robots that pass initial inspection may still be inspected again if a concern arises during the competition.

Team & Control

  • Each team shall designate a Team Captain.
  • Only registered team members may operate or work on the team's robot during the competition, subject to venue restrictions.
  • Teams shall be responsible for the operation and control of their robot.
  • Only permitted control systems may be used.
  • Teams must ensure that their control or communication systems do not intentionally interfere with other teams.
  • Deliberate signal jamming, unauthorized access to another team's system, or interference with another robot is strictly prohibited.
  • The organizers may impose additional communication requirements to ensure fair competition.

Playing Field

  • Matches shall be conducted on the official RoboSoccer field designated by the organizers.
  • The field shall contain designated playing boundaries and goal areas.
  • Only authorized participants, referees, and event officials may enter the playing area during an active match.
  • Participants must not intentionally move, modify, or interfere with field equipment.
  • The referee may stop a match if the playing field becomes unsafe or unsuitable for competition.

Ball & Game Equipment

  • The organizers shall provide or approve the official RoboSoccer ball.
  • Teams shall not modify or replace the official ball.
  • The ball must remain within the competition area during normal gameplay.
  • If the ball becomes damaged or unsuitable for play, the referee may stop the match and replace it.
  • Any replacement equipment shall be approved by the organizers.

Match Format

  • The competition format shall depend on the final number of participating teams.
  • The organizers may conduct:
  • Qualifying rounds
  • League/group rounds
  • Knockout rounds
  • Quarterfinals
  • Semifinals
  • Final
  • The exact match duration and format shall be announced before the competition.
  • The organizers reserve the right to modify the format when reasonably necessary because of the number of participating teams, technical issues, or time limitations.
  • Teams must report to the competition area before their scheduled match.

Match Start

  • Both teams must place their robots in the starting positions designated by the referee.
  • The robot must remain stationary until the official start signal.
  • Teams may not begin operating their robots before the referee gives the start signal.
  • Any deliberate early movement may result in a warning or penalty.
  • The referee shall officially start and end each match.

Gameplay

  • The objective of each team is to score more goals than the opposing team.
  • Robots may interact with the ball through permitted mechanisms.
  • Normal robot-to-robot contact occurring during gameplay may be permitted.
  • Deliberate actions intended to damage or disable another robot are prohibited.
  • Teams must not physically interfere with the opponent's robot during active play.
  • Participants may not enter the playing area or manually move their robot during active gameplay unless specifically authorized by the referee.
  • The referee may stop play whenever necessary for safety, technical issues, or rule enforcement.
  • Teams must follow all referee instructions immediately.

Scoring

  • Each valid goal shall count as one point, unless a different scoring system is announced by the organizers.
  • A goal shall be counted when the ball completely crosses the designated goal line.
  • The referee shall have the authority to confirm whether a goal is valid.
  • A goal resulting from a prohibited action may be cancelled.
  • The official score recorded by the referee/organizing committee shall be considered the competition record.

Robot-to-Robot Contact

  • Incidental contact between robots during normal gameplay is permitted.
  • Deliberate attempts to damage an opponent's robot are strictly prohibited.
  • Robots must not intentionally use dangerous mechanisms against another robot.
  • Repeated aggressive or unsafe collisions may result in penalties.
  • A team may be penalized for intentionally trapping an opponent in a manner that prevents normal gameplay.
  • The referee shall determine whether contact constitutes legitimate gameplay or an illegal action.

Fouls & Penalties

The following actions may result in a warning, penalty, goal cancellation, match forfeiture, or disqualification:

  • Deliberately damaging another robot.
  • Entering the playing area without permission.
  • Manually interfering with a robot during active play.
  • Deliberately interfering with another team's communication system.
  • Using prohibited equipment or mechanisms.
  • Deliberately damaging the field or event equipment.
  • Repeatedly ignoring referee instructions.
  • Unsporting or abusive conduct.
  • Attempting to manipulate the score or result.
  • Any other serious violation of the RoboSoccer rules.

The penalty shall be determined according to the seriousness of the violation.

Technical Timeouts

  • Technical timeouts may be permitted depending on the match format.
  • The number and duration of technical timeouts shall be determined by the organizers.
  • A team must request a timeout through the referee or designated event official.
  • Teams are responsible for ensuring that their robot is operational before the match begins.
  • A malfunction caused by a team's own equipment will generally not require the opposing team to replay the match.
  • If a technical problem is caused by official event equipment, the referee may order a restart or replay where appropriate.

Batteries & Power Systems

  • Teams are responsible for the safe handling and operation of their robot's batteries and power systems.
  • Batteries must be suitable for use in the robot and must not present a safety hazard.
  • Damaged, leaking, overheating, or otherwise unsafe batteries must not be used.
  • Battery charging shall be carried out only in areas permitted by the organizers.
  • Teams must follow all safety instructions relating to electrical and battery systems.

Tie-Breaking

If two teams finish with the same score, the organizers may use one or more of the following criteria:

  • Head-to-head result.
  • Goal difference.
  • Total goals scored.
  • Additional match.
  • Penalty/shoot-out format.
  • Any other tie-breaking method announced before the relevant round.

The applicable tie-breaking procedure shall be communicated to participants.

Match Interruption & Restart

  • The referee may stop a match due to:
  • Safety concerns
  • Technical failure
  • Field malfunction
  • Ball-related problems
  • External interference
  • Any other circumstance affecting fair competition
  • The referee shall decide whether play should resume, restart, or continue.
  • If a replay is required, the organizers shall communicate the applicable procedure to both teams.
  • Teams must follow the referee's instructions during any interruption.

Protests & Appeals

  • Only the Team Captain or an authorized team representative may submit an official protest.
  • A protest must be submitted to the designated event coordinator within the specified time.
  • The protest must clearly identify the relevant rule or decision being challenged.
  • Protests should be made respectfully and without disrupting ongoing matches.
  • Judges' and referees' decisions shall generally be final except in cases of demonstrable procedural error or violation of the published rules.
  • The decision of the designated organizing authority on a valid protest shall be final.

Disqualification

A participant/team may be disqualified for:

  • Cheating or attempting to manipulate the competition.
  • Plagiarism or unauthorized use of another team's work where applicable.
  • Misrepresentation of identity or registration information.
  • Deliberate damage to another robot.
  • Deliberate damage to college/event property.
  • Use of prohibited equipment, software, substances, or materials.
  • Interference with another team's control or communication system.
  • Manipulation of judging, scoring, or competition results.
  • Misconduct, harassment, threats, or abusive behavior.
  • Repeated violation of competition rules.
  • Failure to comply with reasonable instructions from event coordinators or college authorities.
  • Serious safety or security violations.

Disqualification may result in forfeiture of participation and/or prize eligibility.

Code of Conduct

  • All participants must maintain discipline and respectful behavior throughout the event.
  • Participants must treat other teams, judges, referees, volunteers, organizers, and spectators respectfully.
  • Harassment, threats, abusive behavior, intimidation, or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated.
  • Participants must follow the rules of the venue and institution.
  • The organizers may remove any individual whose conduct disrupts the event or creates a safety/security concern.

Personal Equipment

  • Teams are responsible for their own robots, laptops, controllers, tools, batteries, and other equipment.
  • Participants should keep valuable equipment secure.
  • The organizers are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal property except where liability is imposed by applicable law.
  • Teams must keep their assigned workspace clean and safe.
  • Any shared equipment must be returned in the condition specified by the organizers.

Safety

  • All participants must follow safety instructions issued by the organizers.
  • Robots may be operated only in designated areas.
  • Participants must not touch or attempt to repair a robot while it is operating in an unsafe condition.
  • Teams must immediately inform organizers of any dangerous technical fault.
  • The organizers may stop a match or prohibit a robot from participating if they determine that it presents a safety risk.
  • Safety decisions made by authorized event officials shall be respected by all participants.

Event Schedule

  • Participants must report at the venue at the time specified by the organizers.
  • Teams must be ready for their scheduled matches.
  • Late arrival may result in forfeiture of a match, disqualification, or denial of participation.
  • The organizers may modify the schedule, venue, format, or sequence of matches when reasonably necessary.
  • Reasonable efforts will be made to communicate significant changes to participants as soon as practicable.

Prizes & Number of Participants

  • Prize amounts may be determined or finalized based on the number of valid participating teams registered for RoboSoccer.
  • The prize amount announced at registration may be subject to revision depending on the final number of participating teams.
  • If the number of participating teams is substantially lower than the expected or minimum participation level, the organizers reserve the right to reduce, restructure, or revise the prize pool.
  • Any such revision will be communicated to participants as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • The organizers may decide not to award a particular prize/category if the minimum participation requirement is not met or if the event is cancelled.
  • Prizes are subject to applicable college/institutional policies.
  • Prizes may be provided in the form of cash, vouchers, trophies, certificates, products, or other announced rewards.
  • The organizers shall not be responsible for delays in prize distribution caused by administrative, banking, sponsorship, or institutional procedures.

Photography & Media

  • By participating in Techno Vision 2026, participants acknowledge that photographs, videos, and general event footage may be captured during the event.
  • Such material may be used by the organizers/college for legitimate event-related purposes, including:
  • Event reports
  • Promotional material
  • Social media
  • Future event publicity
  • Such use shall be subject to applicable law and institutional policies.
  • Participants with specific concerns regarding media use should contact the event organizers before participation.

Intellectual Property

  • Participants must ensure that their robot designs, software, presentations, and other submitted materials do not unlawfully infringe the rights of others.
  • Participants retain ownership of their original work unless otherwise specified by the rules of a particular competition.
  • Unauthorized copying, plagiarism, or misrepresentation of another team's work may result in disqualification.
  • The organizers may use information, photographs, and descriptions of participating or winning robots for event documentation and promotional purposes where permitted by the applicable event rules.

Changes, Cancellation & Force Majeure

  • The organizers reserve the right to postpone, reschedule, modify, or cancel RoboSoccer due to circumstances including:
  • Insufficient participation
  • Venue restrictions
  • Technical problems
  • Institutional directions
  • Safety concerns
  • Unforeseen circumstances
  • Other circumstances beyond reasonable control
  • If the event is cancelled, the organizers will communicate the applicable procedure regarding registrations and/or refunds, if any.
  • The organizers will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of significant changes whenever circumstances permit.

Interpretation of Rules

  • These RoboSoccer Rules & Regulations must be read together with the Official Terms & Conditions of Techno Vision 2026.
  • Where an event-specific RoboSoccer rule conflicts with a general provision, the event-specific rule shall apply to RoboSoccer.
  • The organizers reserve the right to clarify ambiguities and make reasonable procedural decisions necessary for the smooth and fair conduct of the competition.
  • No verbal assurance from an individual volunteer or participant coordinator shall override the officially published rules unless confirmed by the authorized organizing committee.
  • The decision of the authorized organizing committee regarding matters not expressly covered by these rules shall be final, subject to applicable institutional rules.

Acceptance

By registering for or participating in RoboSoccer at Techno Vision 2026, participants acknowledge that they have:

  • Read and understood these RoboSoccer Rules & Regulations.
  • Read and accepted the Official Terms & Conditions of Techno Vision 2026.
  • Agreed to comply with all applicable event, college, and safety rules.
  • Agreed to follow the instructions of authorized judges, referees, coordinators, and college authorities.

The Techno Vision 2026 Organizing Committee reserves the right to take reasonable decisions necessary to ensure fairness, safety, discipline, and smooth conduct of the RoboSoccer competition while communicating material changes to participants whenever reasonably practicable.
