Opportunity brief

AEROSTRIKE: Paper Plane Design Challenge:

Introduction:

  • AEROSTRIKE is a test of aerodynamic design using paper.
  • The challenge allows participants to conceptualize, craft, and launch paper aircraft that excel in flight distance, pinpoint accuracy, and structural stability.
  • Participants can apply theoretical physics through a hands-on engineering challenge.

Eligibility:

  • Open to all Diploma, UG, and PG students from any branch or discipline from recognized colleges or universities.
  • Participants must carry a valid college ID card during the event for verification.
  • Failure to produce a valid college ID may lead to disqualification.

Gameplay And Event Structure:

- The challenge consists of a timed construction phase followed by two competitive rounds.

Construction Phase:

  • Teams will be provided with standard sheets of paper.
  • Participants must construct their aircraft within 20 minutes.
  • No extra time will be allotted after the construction phase ends.

Round 1: The Flight Test:

  • Teams will be called to the designated launch area one by one.
  • Each team will make three hand-launched attempts to achieve maximum flight distance through gliding.
  • The judges will record the best performance out of the three attempts for the final flight score.
  • The top 5 teams will be selected for the Viva round.

Round 2: Technical Viva:

  • Each team will participate in a 5-minute viva following the flight test.
  • Participants must explain the aerodynamic principles and specific design choices behind their aircraft.

Scoring:

  • Distance Travelled: 30 Points.
  • Aerodynamic Stability: 25 Points.
  • Design Creativity and Stability: 20 Points.
  • Discipline and Behaviour with Team: 10 Points.
  • Viva: 15 Points.

Rules & Regulations:

  • Team size: Maximum of 3 participants per team.
  • Only standard sheets of paper provided by the organizers at the venue are allowed.
  • Participants may bring their own scissors and adhesive for construction purposes.
  • Pre-folded planes, outside paper, or hidden weights are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate disqualification.
  • All folding must be done manually by the team members.
  • Cutting and use of adhesives are allowed.
  • Each aircraft must be launched entirely by hand from behind the designated launch line.
  • Throwing aids and rubber bands are strictly prohibited.
  • Stepping over or crossing the launch line during a throw will be considered a foul, and the attempt will not be scored.
  • Teams may make minor aerodynamic adjustments, such as tweaking wing flaps, between their three attempts.
  • Teams cannot construct a completely new aircraft once the flight round begins.

Judging Criteria:

  • Flight Distance.
  • Target Accuracy.
  • Aerodynamic Stability.
  • Creativity & Design Innovation.
  • Technical Knowledge (Viva).
  • Discipline & Conduct.

Rewards & Recognition:

  • Exciting prizes for the Top 3 Winners.
  • Certificates for all participants.

Certification Policy:

  • All participants will receive certificates.
  • Winners will be awarded certificates and prizes based on the final results declared by the judges.

Important Note:

  • Judges' decisions will be final and binding.
  • Participants must bring a valid student ID and confirmation receipt.
  • Participants must report 15 minutes before the event starts.
  • Participants must respect the materials and venue rules.
  • Any misconduct may lead to disqualification.
  • The organizers reserve the right to modify the rules, schedule, or any aspect of the event with prior notice, in the best interest of the competition.
  • Participants must stay updated through official notices on the SLIET techFEST 2026 website.
  • Further modifications to the problem statement may be made based on subsequent analysis and requirements.
