Opportunity brief
Overview
- An individual debate competition testing logical reasoning, persuasive speaking, rebuttal skills, and audience engagement.
- The theme is "Persuasion Through Logic."
- Participants will defend or oppose a pre-announced motion with the objective of influencing audience opinion.
General Rules & Regulations
- Individual participation only
- Open to registered fest participants.
- The debate must be conducted entirely in English.
- Participants must support arguments with logical reasoning, relevant facts, and examples.
- Respectful conduct must be maintained throughout the competition.
- Personal attacks, abusive or discriminatory remarks, and unparliamentary language are prohibited.
- Judges' decision shall be final and binding.
Competition Structure
- Phase 1 – Initial Audience Vote: Audience and judges vote on the motion before the debate.
- Phase 2 – Constructive Speech: 4 minutes to present arguments and supporting evidence.
- Phase 3 – Cross-Examination & Rebuttal: 3 minutes for questions and responses from judges, participants, and audience.
- Phase 4 – Final Audience Vote: Audience and judges vote again after the rebuttal.
- The primary winning criterion is the positive shift in audience opinion between the initial and final vote.
Additional Guidelines
- Only one entry per participant is permitted.
- Debate motions will be communicated in advance for preparation.
- Participants must report before the scheduled event time.
- No extra time will be provided.
- Failure to follow the prescribed format, event instructions, or decorum may result in disqualification.
