Opportunity brief

Guidelines:

  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduate students interested in aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical, electronics, robotics, aircraft design, and related engineering disciplines.
  • Team Size: Each team must consist of 3–4 members.
  • Inter-College Teams: Inter-college teams are allowed, subject to successful registration and approval by the organizers.
  • Inter-Specialization Teams: Inter-specialization/branch teams are allowed and encouraged. Students from different engineering disciplines may form a team.
  • Event Type: Technical aircraft design, building, and piloting challenge.
  • Number of Problem Statements: The event consists of one main aircraft challenge, conducted through multiple stages:
  • Technical Inspection
  • Qualification Round
  • Final Round
  • Duration: The total event duration is 3 hours.
  • Maximum Capacity: 25 teams.
  • Aircraft: Teams must build their aircraft according to the technical and safety requirements specified by the organizers.
  • Technical Inspection: Every aircraft must pass a mandatory technical inspection before participating in the flight rounds.
  • Qualification Round: Teams must demonstrate stable flight, maneuverability, control, and a safe landing.
  • Final Round: Qualified teams must:
  • Complete two full loops around the designated field.
  • Navigate two obstacles.
  • Accurately drop a 20 g payload into the designated target zone.
  • Evaluation: Teams will be evaluated based on successful completion of the flight tasks, aircraft control, stability, maneuverability, obstacle navigation, landing, and payload-drop accuracy.
  • Registration: Registration requires organizer approval. The registration fee is ₹200 per team, payable online by the team lead.
  • Venue: Ramaiah Technology Campus, Bengaluru.
  • Event Date: RC-X is scheduled for 15 October 2026, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM.

Rules:

  • Each team must consist of 3–4 registered members.
  • Teams must build and operate their aircraft in accordance with the technical specifications provided by the organizers.
  • Every aircraft must undergo and pass the mandatory technical and safety inspection before flight.
  • An aircraft that does not satisfy the specified technical or safety requirements may be disqualified from further participation.
  • Only aircraft approved during the technical inspection may proceed to the qualification round.
  • During the qualification round, teams must demonstrate stable flight, maneuverability, control, and a safe landing.
  • Teams must successfully qualify before proceeding to the final round.
  • In the final round, the aircraft must complete two full loops around the designated field.
  • Teams must navigate the two designated obstacles without violating the prescribed course boundaries.
  • Teams must carry and accurately release the specified 20 g payload into the target zone.
  • The payload must be released only according to the instructions and procedure specified by the event coordinators.
  • Participants must follow all instructions given by the judges, coordinators, and safety officials during aircraft preparation and flight.
  • Teams must not interfere with another team's aircraft, equipment, flight path, or workspace.
  • Any unauthorized modification or use of equipment that violates the event's technical specifications may result in disqualification.
  • Participants must maintain safe distances from the aircraft, flight area, spectators, and other teams during testing and competition.
  • Any unsafe operation, deliberate interference, cheating, or violation of the technical rules may result in penalties or disqualification.
  • Teams are responsible for ensuring that their aircraft is properly prepared and safe to operate before each flight attempt.
  • Participants must handle all equipment and materials responsibly. Intentional damage to event or venue property may result in disqualification.
  • In case of a tie, the organizers may conduct an additional flight or use the relevant performance parameters as a tie-breaker.
  • The judges' decision regarding technical inspection, flight validity, penalties, qualification, and final results will be final and binding.
  • Participants must maintain professional conduct throughout the event and follow all venue and safety regulations.

  • Round 3 — Final Challenge
  • Qualified teams must complete two full loops, navigate two obstacles, and accurately drop a 20 g payload into the target zone.
