Opportunity brief
Guidelines:
- Eligibility: Open to undergraduate engineering students interested in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, and related technical disciplines.
- Team Size: Each team must consist of exactly 2 members.
- Inter-College Teams: Inter-college teams are allowed, subject to registration and approval by the organizers.
- Inter-Specialization Teams: Inter-specialization teams are allowed. Students from different engineering branches may participate together.
- Event Type: Hands-on structural engineering design-and-build challenge.
- Number of Problem Statements: The event consists of one primary problem statement: design and construct a model bridge using the materials provided by the organizers.
- Duration: The total competition duration is 3 hours.
- Maximum Capacity: 40 teams can participate.
- Design Objective: Teams must construct a bridge that can withstand the highest possible load while making efficient use of the available materials.
- Materials: Teams must use only the materials and resources permitted/provided by the organizers.
- Structural Concepts: Participants are expected to apply concepts such as load distribution, structural stability, strength, stiffness, truss/action of members, and efficient material utilization.
- Construction: Teams must design and construct their bridge within the allotted competition time.
- Testing: Completed bridges will undergo a load test to determine their structural performance.
- Evaluation: The bridge will be evaluated based on load-carrying capacity, structural stability, efficient use of materials, innovation, construction quality, and technical presentation.
- Technical Presentation: Teams may be required to briefly explain their bridge design, structural concept, material usage, and design decisions to the judges.
- Registration: Registration requires organizer approval. The registration fee is ₹200 per team, paid online by the team lead.
- Venue: Ramaiah Technology Campus, Bengaluru.
- Event Date: 14 October 2026, as per the official Pravrutti schedule.
Rules:
- Each team must consist of exactly 2 registered members.
- Teams must complete the bridge within the 3-hour competition duration.
- The bridge must be constructed using only the materials permitted or supplied by the organizers.
- Teams must not use unauthorized materials, components, tools, or external structural supports.
- The bridge must satisfy the dimensional and construction requirements specified by the organizers.
- The completed bridge must be submitted for inspection before load testing.
- The bridge will be tested under load using the procedure specified by the organizers.
- Participants must not physically support, reinforce, or modify the bridge during the load test.
- Any bridge that does not satisfy the mandatory technical requirements may be disqualified before testing.
- Teams must prioritize structural safety and stability during both construction and testing.
- Teams must not interfere with another team's materials, workspace, bridge, or testing equipment.
- Participants may discuss and develop their design only within their registered team.
- Copying another team's design or receiving unauthorized assistance from outside the team may result in disqualification.
- Teams must use materials efficiently and avoid unnecessary wastage.
- Any intentional damage to event equipment, materials, or venue property may result in disqualification and/or recovery of the damage cost.
- Participants must follow all safety instructions issued by the organizers and judges.
- Proper care must be taken while cutting, joining, assembling, and handling construction materials.
- Any form of cheating, tampering, rule violation, or unfair practice may result in immediate disqualification.
- In case of a tie, the organizers may use material efficiency, bridge weight, structural performance, technical presentation, or an additional load test as a tie-breaker.
- The judges' decision regarding inspection, load testing, scoring, penalties, and final results will be final and binding.
- Participants must maintain professional conduct and follow the instructions of coordinators, judges, and volunteers throughout the event.
