Opportunity brief

About the Event:

Moneyball: The Football Auction is an immersive football management and auction simulation that challenges participants to build and strengthen their teams through strategic bidding, squad planning, match simulation, and player negotiations. Participants will compete in teams, combining football knowledge, strategic thinking, decision-making, and negotiation skills in a competitive environment.

Event Flow:

Pre-Fest Round: Football Quiz (Online Round):

The event begins with a fast-paced online quiz hosted on Unstop, designed to assess participants' knowledge of general knowledge and recent footballing events.

  • The quiz will be conducted online on Unstop.
  • The quiz will consist of 35 questions.
  • The duration of the quiz will be 12 minutes.
  • Only the Team Leader will have access to the quiz on behalf of the team.
  • Participants will be allowed to modify their answers before final submission.
  • The top 10 teams based on their performance in the quiz will qualify for the next round.

Bid Maestro (On-Campus Round):

The shortlisted teams will participate in Bid Maestro, the core football auction round. Each team will build its squad through a competitive auction while strategically managing its allocated purse.

Teams will be required to build a squad of at least 11 players, including:

  • 1–2 Goalkeepers
  • 3–5 Defenders
  • 2–4 Midfielders
  • 2–4 Forwards

The objective of this round is to maximize the overall strength of the team while efficiently utilizing the allocated purse.

  • Every player will have an associated strength based on which teams will bid for them.
  • Once the squads are formed, matches will be simulated on FIFA in a round-robin format.
  • Based on the simulation results, teams will be ranked from 1 to 10.
  • Teams ranked 1–4 will be classified as the Top 4, while teams ranked 5–10 will form the Bottom 6.

Transfer Market:

The Top 4 teams will get an opportunity to further strengthen their squads by acquiring players from the Bottom 6 teams using their remaining purse.

Teams will be required to:

  • Select up to 3 preferred players they wish to acquire from players released by the Bottom 6 teams.
  • Negotiate with the respective player managers through a classified negotiation process.
  • Finalize each negotiation within 3 minutes.

After the transfer market, the modified squads of the Top 4 teams will be simulated again on FIFA to determine the final standings and the champions.

The Best Negotiator Award will be awarded to the team from the Bottom 6 that has the maximum purse remaining at the end of the negotiation process.

Additional Rules:

  • Teams must have a minimum of 1 member and a maximum of 5 members.
  • The Team Leader will represent the team during the bidding process.
  • Only the Team Leader can raise their hand and place bids on behalf of the team.
  • Teams must bring their laptops for the event.
