Opportunity brief
Cipher Trail: The Ultimate OSINT & CTF Challenge
Crack the code. Follow the trail. Capture the flags.
About the Event:
Cipher Trail is a fast-paced, competitive Capture The Flag (CTF) contest blending coding, real-world investigative problem-solving, and digital forensics.
Unlike traditional CTFs with open challenge boards, Cipher Trail operates as a progressive puzzle gauntlet. To navigate the trail, you must search, connect disparate clues, dissect code, investigate digital breadcrumbs, and think critically under time pressure.
The ultimate objective is simple: Solve the trail and reach the final stage first.
Event Structure & Mechanics:
- Progressive Flag-Hunting: Challenges are sequential. Solving a puzzle yields a specific flag format (e.g., CTF{...}), which unlocks access to the subsequent challenge.
- Real-World Information Gathering: Puzzles draw heavy inspiration from Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and algorithmic deduction.
- Live Leaderboard: Real-time scoring tracking rounds cleared and submission timestamps.
Key Details:
- Format: Competitive Online Capture The Flag (CTF)
- Team Size: 1-2 Members
- Duration: 2 Hours
- Eligibility: Open to students, developers, and puzzle enthusiasts
Challenge Domain:
- OSINT (Open Source Intelligence): Digital footprint tracking, reverse lookups, metadata extraction, and internet-scale clue hunting.
Rules & Guidelines:
- Team Composition: Solo participation or teams of up to 2 members. Cross-college/cross-organization teams are permitted.
- Flag Sharing: Sharing flags, hints, or solutions with other teams is strictly prohibited and results in immediate disqualification.
- Infrastructure Attacks: Any attempt to attack or disrupt the platform infrastructure, brute-force submission endpoints, or degrade the experience for other participants will lead to a permanent ban.
- Tie-Breaker: In case multiple teams reach the same round, ranking is determined by the earliest timestamp of the latest valid submission.
- Decisions: The decisions of the event organizers and judges are final and binding.
Why Participate?:
- Test your practical problem-solving, OSINT, and reverse-engineering skills against real-world scenarios.
- Experience a dynamic, round-by-round unlocking mechanism with zero downtime.
- Compete against the sharpest minds on the live leaderboard.
- Earn certificates of participation and podium recognition.
