Opportunity brief

Overview

Act It. Guess It. Sketch It.

Competition Description

Think you can communicate an engineering concept without saying a single word? Welcome to Guess & Sketch, a fun and engaging team challenge that combines mechanical knowledge, non-verbal communication, quick thinking, and drawing skills!

One team member will be shown the name or image of a mechanical component and must communicate it to their teammates using gestures and actions only. Speaking, writing, spelling, or revealing the component's name is strictly prohibited.

The remaining team members must identify the component and draw its diagram within the allotted time. From familiar machine elements to challenging mechanical components, every round tests how effectively a team can communicate, interpret, and visualize engineering concepts.

Can your team turn silent gestures into the perfect engineering sketch?

Competition Format

  • Participation: Team-based
  • Suggested Team Size: 3–4 members
  • Duration: 2–3 minutes per round
  • Materials Provided: Component prompts, paper, and drawing materials
  • Challenge: Identify the mechanical component and sketch its diagram
  • Winning Criteria: Highest score based on correct identification and drawing accuracy

Rules and Regulations

  • One team member will be designated as the performer and shown a mechanical component prompt.
  • The performer may communicate the component only through gestures, actions, and body movements.
  • Speaking, whispering, mouthing words, writing, drawing, or using objects to spell or reveal the component's name is prohibited.
  • Teammates must guess the component based on the performer's gestures.
  • Once the team identifies the component, they must draw its diagram on the provided paper within the time limit.
  • The performer cannot directly draw or assist with the sketch.
  • Teams must not use mobile phones, the internet, or external assistance.
  • Only answers and sketches completed within the allotted time will be considered for scoring.
  • Each team will receive a defined number of rounds, subject to the event schedule.
  • The organizers' decisions regarding acceptable answers, sketch accuracy, and final scores will be binding.

Judging Criteria

  • Identification Accuracy: Correctly guessing the mechanical component.
  • Sketch Accuracy: Producing a recognizable diagram showing the component's essential shape and features.
  • Time Management: Completing both tasks within the allotted time.
  • Rule Compliance: Communicating exclusively through permitted gestures.

Winner Selection

The team with the highest cumulative score across the designated rounds will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, a sudden-death round with a challenging mechanical component may be conducted.

Prizes and Certificates

Exciting prizes and certificates will be awarded to the winning teams, with certificates of participation for eligible participants.

What to Expect

Get ready for a competition where engineering meets creativity! Test your mechanical knowledge, decode gestures, think on your feet, and transform ideas into sketches. Whether it's a gear, crankshaft, bearing, or complex machine element, your team's coordination will make all the difference.

No words. No hints. Just gestures, guesses, and great sketches!
