About the role

About TorqWars:

TorqWars is building India's competitive RC racing. We are a sports-entertainment business running on three engines: experience-led arenas with timed racing, a league, and a D2C store for RC cars and parts. Our first arena opens soon in Bandra, Mumbai, and we are backed by The Foundery. Our mission is to make battling with machines a real sport. You will work directly with the founders and own how your function is built from the ground up.

Role overview:

You will own the TorqWars player community and our events: tournaments, leagues, racing events and brand activations. You will grow a community of players who come back, compete and bring their friends, and turn our events into a format we can run across every arena. In the first few months you will run the events and community channels yourself, and build the team as both grow.

Key responsibilities: Community

  • Build and manage the player community: how people discover us, sign up, play, return and refer others.
  • Run community channels such as WhatsApp groups, Instagram and Discord.
  • Build ambassador, creator, campus and hobby-club programmes.
  • Create community content with the creative team: player stories, event recaps, creator features, leaderboards and rivalries.

Key responsibilities: Events

  • Design event and tournament formats: rules, heats, scoring and run of show.
  • Manage production: staging, timing, sound, lights and the safety plan.
  • Source and brief vendors and event crew, and lead on the day.
  • Run a post-event review after every event and apply the learnings to the next one.

KPIs:

Active returning players, new players per event, organic sign-ups without paid ads, events delivered on time and safely, and participant and spectator feedback.

Good to have:

Motorsport, RC, karting, gaming or esports. Campus and youth marketing. Sports or brand partnerships. Startup or founder experience.

How we assess:

A quick AI voice interview with your camera on (about 20 minutes, five main questions): a community you built, an event that broke on the day and what you changed, a TorqWars race-night scenario to plan out loud, and what your last manager would say about you. We do not expect you to know RC cars; we will teach you the sport. We speak to references before any offer.

Your first 90 days:

The first race format defined and run end to end, the first ambassadors and community channels active, and a returning-player baseline we track every week.

What we offer:

Ownership of community and events from day one, 0.1–0.5% ESOPs (vesting as set out in the offer letter), direct work with the founders, and the chance to build a new sport in India.

Hiring process:

A short AI interview, a call with a founder, a short assignment for shortlisted candidates, an in-person meeting in Mumbai with reference checks, a final conversation with our co-founder, and an offer within 2 weeks of the first call.

When you apply, share:

  • A community you built where people came back, with the repeat numbers.
  • An event you owned end to end, and your role in it.
  • Current and expected CTC, and notice period.

Requirements

  • Experience across community management, field or experiential marketing, and live events. Senior candidates are welcome, and so are candidates with 3–5 years who have built and grown a community themselves.
  • Proof of retention: repeat attendance, retention or referral numbers, not just reach or impressions.
  • Has owned events or event IPs end to end: budget, vendors, run of show and on-ground management.
  • Has built a programme or format that kept running after you moved on.
  • Willing to be on the ground at events, including evenings and weekends.
