About the role

About the Event

MARKETRIX: The Analytics League is an analytics-based competition built around the theme "Turning Data into Decisions." It provides participants with an opportunity to examine a business problem, analyse relevant data, generate meaningful insights, and present evidence-based managerial recommendations. The event is conducted in online/offline mode and follows a two-round structure: an analytical report submission in Round 1, followed by a final presentation and Q&A in Round 2.

Objectives of the Event

The following objectives are summarised from its stated theme, report requirements, and evaluation criteria:

-

Develop participants' ability to understand and define real-world business problems. -

Encourage the selection and application of appropriate analytical methodologies. -

Build skills in data collection, data analysis, interpretation, and meaningful visualisation. -

Enable participants to convert analytical findings into actionable, evidence-based recommendations. -

Strengthen managerial understanding, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate and defend analytical insights.

Competition Format

Round 1: The Analytics Challenge

Each team must select one problem statement from the six challenges released by the organisers and submit an analytical report. Teams may select more than one problem, provided they maintain sufficient analytical depth for each selected problem. The report must contain 2,500–3,500 words, excluding references and appendices, and must be submitted in PDF format.

Mandatory Report Structure:

-

Executive Summary – problem, major findings, and recommendations -

Business Problem – background, managerial dilemma, and analytical objectives -

Data Understanding – variables, sample, and data limitations -

Analytical Methodology – rationale for the selected analytical technique -

Data Analysis – calculations, tables, graphs, and results -

Interpretation – meaning of the results for the company -

Strategic Recommendations – actionable, data-driven recommendations -

Expected Business Impact – expected outcomes, assumptions, and measurable KPIs -

Limitations – limitations of the data and analytical approach -

References & Appendix – sources and supporting analysis

Round 1 Evaluation (100 marks):

Round 2: The Boardroom Challenge

Shortlisted teams present their analytical findings before the jury. Each team receives 8 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for judges' Q&A, making a total of 13 minutes per team. All team members must participate in the presentation or Q&A.

Business Problem Areas / Challenge Statements

The attached document states that participants must choose from six challenge problem statements. However, the titles or descriptions of those six challenges are not present in the attached file. They should therefore be added from the organisers' separate problem-statement sheet rather than assumed.

Use of Technology and Data

Participants may use Microsoft Excel and R for analysis. AI tools may also be used, but participants remain responsible for the validity and originality of their work; the document specifies AI-tool use of up to 20%. Plagiarism or copying another team's analysis will lead to disqualification.

Requirements

Data Collection Requirements:

-

The organisers will not provide datasets. Teams must independently collect or identify relevant data. -

Participants may use primary data (surveys, questionnaires, interviews, observations, or experiments) and/or secondary data (public datasets, reports, or databases). -

For primary data, teams must explain the sampling method, target respondents, sample size, questionnaire design, and collection procedure. -

For secondary data, teams must cite authentic sources and explain how the data was extracted. -

A minimum of 100 observations is recommended for survey-based studies. Market Basket Analysis requires a sufficiently large number of transactions to generate meaningful association rules. -

Teams must submit raw data separately in Excel/CSV format along with the analytical report. -

Data must not be fabricated, manipulated, or misrepresented. Reports must distinguish observed findings, assumptions, and recommendations. -

Ethical data collection is required; respondents' personal identifying information must not be disclosed.

The report must demonstrate calculations, support recommendations with analytical evidence, explain assumptions and limitations, and use meaningful, properly labelled, professional visualisations.
