Opportunity brief
About Fallout
Fallout is an on-site structural design challenge by SAE USAR, part of Elysian 2026. Every team gets the same kit, the same 2.5 hours and one job: build a bridge that carries the most load for the least weight. Then every bridge is loaded until it fails. Everything fails eventually. The only question is how much it carried first.
Event Details
- Date: 21 October 2026
- Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (approx.)
- Venue: A-302 | Materials Lab, University School of Automation & Robotics, GGSIPU East Delhi Campus, Delhi
- Mode: Offline
- Registration fee: Free
Eligibility & Team Formation
- Open to all college students, any year, any branch, any college.
- Individual and team participation allowed, with a maximum of 3 members per team.
- Inter-college and inter-branch teams are permitted.
- All participants must register on Unstop before 19 October 2026, 11:59 PM.
- Carry your college ID on the day.
How Fallout Works
- Briefing: Rules, the kit and the test setup are explained.
- Build (2.5 hours): Design and build your bridge on the spot. The design is entirely up to you: truss, arch, beam, anything, as long as it spans the test gap.
- Weigh-in: Each finished bridge is weighed.
- Load test: Each bridge is placed across the supports and loaded gradually with weights until it fails.
- Result: The bridge with the best load-to-mass ratio wins.
Test Setup
- The gap between supports is the same for every team and will be announced at the briefing.
- Load is applied gradually, and the load held is measured on a weighing balance.
- Failure means the bridge breaks and the weights fall.
Scoring
Score = maximum load supported before failure ÷ mass of your bridge. The highest ratio wins. Strong isn't enough. A light bridge that carries the same load beats a heavy one.
Materials & Tools
- Materials, joining material and tools are provided by the organizers.
- Every team gets an identical kit. Details are shared at the briefing.
- Do not bring your own materials, tools or pre-built parts.
Rules
- Maximum 3 members per team.
- The bridge must be built entirely on-site, during the build window, using only the provided kit.
- Pre-built or pre-cut components are not allowed.
- Bridges must be submitted when the build time ends. No modifications after that.
- A bridge that cannot span the test gap cannot be tested and scores zero.
- Tools are to be used safely and as instructed by the organizers.
- During load testing, everyone stays behind the marked safety line. Bridges fail suddenly.
- Organizers' decisions are final.
What You Get
- Certificates
- Refreshments during the event
- All materials and tools provided
- A live look at how your design actually behaves under load
