About the role
VELOCITY X – LINE FOLLOWER COMPETITION
Organized by ANARC (Asimov NIT Agartala Robotics Club) as part of AAYAM XI, the annual national technical festival of NIT Agartala.
About the Competition
Velocity X is the ultimate challenge of autonomous control, sensor calibration, and rapid path-planning. Participants must design and build an autonomous line-following robot capable of navigating a challenging track with sharp turns, complex geometry, and sudden directional changes in the shortest possible time.
The competition tests engineering precision, programming efficiency, and the ability to develop a reliable autonomous robotic system.
I. Bot Specifications & Technical Constraints
- Dimensions: The robot must fit within a rigid sizing frame of 25 cm × 25 cm × 15 cm. No extensions are permitted after the start.
- Weight Limit: Maximum weight must not exceed 2 kg.
- Power & Control:
- Fully autonomous operation is mandatory.
- The robot must operate using an onboard microcontroller (Arduino, ESP32, etc.).
- The onboard battery power supply must not exceed 12V DC.
- Chassis Setup:
- Readymade commercial chassis kits and pre-assembled LEGO kits are prohibited.
- The structural design of the robot must be custom-fabricated by the participating team.
II. Track Specifications
- The track will be laid on a smooth white surface with a solid black line of 2.5 cm width.
- The track will include 90° sharp corners and a minimum turning radius of 15 cm.
- Distinct black checkpoint squares of 5 cm² will be provided along the track.
III. Match & Round Structure
- The competition will follow a single-track, time-based trial format.
- Each team will be allotted a maximum of 2 official runs.
- The fastest single successful run will determine the team's final leaderboard position.
- The robot must be placed behind the starting line.
- Once activated, no human interaction, remote calibration, or physical assistance is permitted.
- Time will be recorded manually using a stopwatch from the start line to the finish line.
IV. Track Deviations & Resets
- If a robot completely loses track of the black line, it will be considered a track deviation.
- A maximum of 5 manual resets will be allowed per run.
- During a reset, the robot must be placed back at the last successfully cleared checkpoint.
- The master match timer will continue running during resets.
V. Disqualification
- A robot that fails to cross the finish line within the maximum time limit of 5 minutes will be disqualified for that run.
- Exceeding the maximum allowance of 5 manual resets will result in disqualification for that run.
VI. Evaluation Criteria
- Time taken to complete the track.
- Accuracy and consistency of line tracking.
- Successful navigation of challenging turns.
- Number of resets required.
Date: 13th November
Time: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Venue: SAC Building, Ground Floor
Prizes: 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
Participants are expected to follow all technical specifications and competition guidelines. The decision of the organizing committee and judges will be final.
