About the role

Competition Overview

This is a CAD Competition. Participants are required to design and submit a CAD model created entirely by them according to the given problem statement. The objective of this competition is to encourage creativity, design thinking, and practical CAD skills among students.

Submission Deadline: 13 November 2026

Problem Statement

  • Design a compact BLDC (Brushless DC) motor assembly that fits entirely within a 50 mm × 50 mm × 50 mm cubic enclosure.
  • The 50 mm × 50 mm × 50 mm limit applies only to the BLDC motor assembly. It does not apply to the final assembly including the propeller, which may extend beyond the cube.
  • The motor assembly should resemble a real-world BLDC motor as closely as possible, incorporating appropriate internal components such as the stator, rotor, permanent magnets, windings, shaft, bearings, and motor housing.
  • Participants must design their own propeller which can be easily mounted on the proposed BLDC motor assembly. The maximum permissible propeller diameter is 140mm.
  • Conventional propeller designs are discouraged. Participants are encouraged to explore non-conventional geometries such as toroidal propellers, loop-shaped propellers, duct-integrated designs, or other innovative configurations.
  • Special emphasis will be given to the creativity, originality, and aesthetic appeal of the propeller design. More innovative and visually appealing designs will receive higher weightage.
  • The internal construction of the BLDC motor will also be evaluated. Designs that accurately represent the actual components and construction of a real BLDC motor will receive higher weightage.
  • The motor and propeller must be properly integrated into a single CAD assembly, ensuring appropriate alignment, clearances, and mechanical feasibility.
  • The overall design should be clean, realistic, innovative, and well-detailed.

Allowed Softwares

Mechanical / Engineering CAD Software:

  • SolidWorks
  • Fusion 360
  • CATIA V5
  • Creo
  • NX
  • Free CAD

Any other CAD software is also allowed, as long as the final output is submitted in the required format.

Submission Guidelines

  • Participants must submit their final 3D model in STL format.
  • Participants must also submit the native CAD file (the editable project, including the assembly and all component files) in the original format of the software used.
  • Participants must upload an abstract in PDF format.
  • The abstract must include 2-3 screenshots of the CAD model. The screenshots should clearly show: Sketch(es) or modelling steps, Feature tree / modelling timeline (if applicable), Final 3D model view.
  • The abstract should also contain a brief introduction of the CAD model.
  • Keep your model simple and clear.
  • Last date of submission: 13th November 2026.
  • Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Design Originality and Reference Policy

  • Participants are allowed to take inspiration from Websites, YouTube tutorials, Reference images, or existing designs.
  • Direct downloading and submitting of ready-made CAD model are strictly prohibited.
  • The model must be created manually by the participant from scratch.
  • Use of AI tools for generating 3D models is strictly prohibited. This includes AI-based model generators, auto-design tools, or prompt-based modelling.
  • If AI usage is detected, the participant will be immediately disqualified.

Verification and Interrogation

The organising team reserves the right to:

  • Randomly select participants for interrogation / viva
  • Ask questions related to: Modelling process, Software tools used, Features and workflow.

Failure to justify or explain the submitted model may result in disqualification.

Winners and Results

The names of the winners will be announced during the Airshow at AAYAM XI Techfest of NIT Agartala. The winner will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st prize: 1,500 rupees
  • 2nd prize: 1,000 rupees
  • 3rd prize: 500 rupees
  • Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participants.

Best Fresher (honorary title)

  • The main prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd) are decided strictly by merit. No position is reserved for any group.
  • A fresher is a student currently in the first year of their undergraduate programme. This is verified through the college ID or enrollment details.
  • Participants must mention their year of study and college ID / enrollment number when submitting their entry.
  • The title is given to one participant: the highest-scoring eligible fresher.
  • If that participant is in the top 3, they receive the position and prize and the Best Fresher title.
  • Otherwise they receive the title as a special mention with a certificate and no prize money.
  • The title carries no prize money, so no participant is paid twice. A top-3 winner who also holds the title receives a single certificate showing both, for example "3rd Position and Best Fresher".
  • The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding.

Disqualification Criteria

Participants may be disqualified if:

  • The model is copied or downloaded directly.
  • AI tools are used.
  • Wrong file format is submitted.
  • The participant fails the interrogation.
  • Eligibility rules are violated.

Judging Guidelines

All submitted entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges appointed by the organising committee. The judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity & Originality
  • Design Accuracy & Detailing
  • Modelling Technique & Workflow
  • Presentation & Clarity

Judges may also consider the participant's ability to explain the model during verification/interrogation, if conducted. No fixed marks breakup will be disclosed, and the decision of the judging panel shall be final and binding.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to all.
  • Participants must register and submit entries individually. Team participation is strictly not allowed.
  • Multiple submissions by the same participant are not permitted.
  • Participants must possess basic knowledge of the design software they are using and should be able to explain their modelling workflow during verification/interrogation, if required.
  • Submission of the entry implies that the participant agrees to all rules, guidelines, and decisions made by the organising committee.
  • The organising committee reserves the right to reject any entry that does not meet the eligibility requirements or violates competition rules.
