About the role
ROBO SOCCER – THE ULTIMATE ROBOTIC FOOTBALL CHALLENGE
Organized by ANARC (Asimov NIT Agartala Robotics Club) as part of AAYAM XI, the annual national technical festival of NIT Agartala.
About the Competition
Robo Soccer combines fast-paced robotic movement with strategic mechanical manipulation. The competition challenges teams to design and operate efficient soccer robots equipped with ball-handling mechanisms such as custom rollers, pushers, and passive guards.
Participants will compete in an exciting robotic football match that tests their robot's maneuverability, acceleration, control responsiveness, and team strategy.
I. Bot Specifications & Technical Constraints
- Dimensions: The robot must fit within dimensions of 30 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm at all times.
- Weight Limit: Maximum weight must not exceed 5 kg.
- Power & Control:
- Both wired and wireless control systems are permitted.
- The operational voltage must not exceed 12V DC nominal.
- Ball Handling Mechanism:
- Teams may use passive ball-shaping guards, wings, or active roller-bar mechanisms.
- The mechanism should assist in controlling, pushing, and directing the ball.
II. Arena Specifications
- The playing field will be rectangular, measuring 240 cm × 180 cm.
- The arena will be surrounded by wooden walls of 10 cm height.
- The playing surface will be covered with low-friction green felt.
- Goalposts will measure 40 cm in width and 20 cm in height.
- A standard ball will be placed at the exact center of a 30 cm diameter center circle before the match begins.
III. Match Structure & Gameplay
- Each match will consist of two halves.
- Each half will last 3 minutes.
- A 1-minute half-time break will be provided between the two halves.
- Teams must maneuver their robots to control the ball and score goals against the opposing team.
- A goal will be officially counted only when the entire ball completely crosses the goal line between the goalposts.
IV. Fouls & Violations
- Dead Ball:
- If the ball remains trapped between a robot and the arena wall for more than 10 seconds, the referee will declare a dead ball.
- The ball will then be placed at the nearest neutral grid intersection.
- Goalie Fault:
- A robot cannot remain stationary inside its own penalty box (60 cm × 30 cm) for more than 20 seconds.
- Violation will result in a penalty kick for the opposing team from the center circle.
- Pinning/Ramming:
- Intentionally pinning an opponent's robot against the wall without attempting to play the ball for more than 10 seconds will result in a formal warning.
- Repeated violations will lead to a 30-second box penalty.
V. Evaluation Criteria
- Number of goals scored.
- Ball control and handling efficiency.
- Robot maneuverability and responsiveness.
- Team strategy and gameplay.
