Opportunity brief
A team can have a maximum of 12 STUDENTS from any discipline and from any institute. This competition establishes the groundwork by evaluating the rover's capacity to autonomously navigate, excavate sand, and construct berms. Participants' creations should resemble rovers, but components are not required to be space-qualified.
Competition details:
- Video Submission Round: This is an online round. Participants have to submit a video of their working rover. This is a non-competitive round. All the teams with a genuine rover will move to the prelims. The video submission will not be on Unstop; further guidelines will be released for registered participants. - Preliminary Round: This is an offline round consisting of a single competition attempt per team. Teams will have up to 5 minutes for setup, 10 minutes to run the robot, and 5 minutes for removal. Teams will have to traverse across the obstacle zone, excavate sand, and construct berms. Further details of this round will be communicated after the video submission round. - Grand Finale: This is an offline round. The Finale will consist of a single competition attempt per qualifying team. Each team will have up to 7 minutes for setup, a 15-minute run time, and 5 minutes for removal. This round involves 3 tasks: Navigation through the obstacles, Sand Excavation, and Berm Construction. These tasks can be performed by autonomy or telerobotic control and will be scored accordingly. Rules:
- The arena will be approximately 9m x 5m. The robot should be within an envelope of 1.5m x 0.75m x 0.75m. The maximum mass is 80kg.
- The robot must have an easily accessible E-STOP (kill switch) button for safety.
- The rover must execute at least one level of autonomy as mentioned in the problem statement.
- No entry into the Arena (physical access to the rover) is permitted during a run except in emergencies.
- The rover must not have GPS or IMU-enabled GPS devices for navigation purposes.
- Beacons and markers may be placed in the arena in accordance with the rules in the problem statement.
