Overview:

Space exploration is entering an exciting new chapter, and it will require a combination of bold imagination and serious engineering to make it a reality. The Artemis missions are not just about returning to the Moon. They are about establishing a sustainable human presence there and laying the foundation for humanity's eventual journey to Mars.

Achieving this will require solving complex, real-world challenges. If you are ready to test your problem-solving skills against the hurdles space agencies are addressing today, the National Students' Space Challenge presents its latest case study: Laying the Lunar Foundation: The Artemis Framework.

Step into the role of a mission planner. Analyse the available data, assess high-stakes risks, and develop strategies that could help humanity establish a permanent presence in deep space.

Submission Guidelines:

  • The problem statement will be visible only after registration.
  • This is an online submission round. Teams must submit a well-structured case study addressing the specified questions.
  • The submission should demonstrate clarity, depth of analysis, logical structure, use of evidence, and relevance to the case.
  • The PDF submission should include:
  • Overview of the Topic — 1 slide only
  • Status Quo — 1 slide only
  • Problem Statement
  • Task Solutions specified for Round 1
  • Conclusion and Future Prospects
  • References
  • File Type: PDF
  • Deadline: 9 September 2026

Judgement Criteria:

  • Total: 45 points
  • Content Quality & Depth of Analysis — Answers should be clear, concise, and well-articulated, with relevant use of data and evidence and appropriate exploration of complexities.
  • Structure & Organisation — The submission should be well-organised, with a logical progression and clear headings.
  • Visual Appeal — The PDF should have a clean, well-structured layout with professional formatting and visuals that make it engaging and easy to read. Visual elements such as graphs, charts, and diagrams may be used to enhance the presentation.

Rules and Regulations:

  • This is a team event open to college students only.
  • Each team can have a maximum of 3 participants.
  • Team members can be from different colleges.
  • The event consists of two rounds. Teams will be provided with a single problem statement to work on across both Round 1 and Round 2.
  • Each team must work on the given problem statement and prepare a detailed PDF or PPT report outlining their solution. A PDF version of the PPT must also be submitted.
  • Teams can submit multiple entries; only the latest entry will be considered.
  • Only the best reports will be selected for Round 2.
  • Qualifying teams will be required to further develop their solutions and present their complete findings and results through a PPT-based presentation during the fest.
  • The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
  • The top three teams will be awarded certificates of excellence.
  • Teams invited to the offline round will receive a participation certificate.
