Opportunity brief

About Iridescence: Iridescence is the flagship hackathon organized by the Game Developers Community (GDC) SRM. This event is a gamification hackathon where participants are challenged to take real-world problem statements and transform them into engaging, interactive, and gamified software solutions or applications.

Eligibility & Team Rules:

  • Team Size: 2 to 4 members per team.
  • Registration Fee: ₹150 per head.
  • Eligibility: Open to all university and college students.
  • Team Composition: Inter-college and inter-specialization teams are allowed (all members must provide valid student IDs upon verification).

Event Structure & Timeline:

  • Round 1 (Online Screening):
  • Problem Statement Release: Problem statements for Round 1 will be released 2 days prior to the start of the online round.
  • Deliverable: Teams must submit a video pitch presentation detailing their gamification strategy, core mechanics, tech stack, and initial design framework.
  • Round 2 & Finale (Offline Hackathon):
  • Venue: TP2 7th Floor, SRMIST KTR, Chennai.
  • Problem Statement Release: The finale problem statements and secondary design constraints will be revealed on the day of the offline event.
  • Format: On-site hackathon where shortlisted teams build, test, and pitch fully functional gamified prototypes to the judging panel.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Gamification Focus: Submissions must explicitly demonstrate how game mechanics (e.g., feedback loops, progression systems, interactive simulation, player mechanics) directly solve or improve user engagement for the assigned problem statement.
  • Round 1 Submission: PDF presentation deck + unlisted video link (YouTube/Google Drive) explaining the concept and architecture.
  • Final Submission: Working prototype/build, public GitHub repository link (with a clear md), and live presentation slides for judge reviews.

Code of Conduct & Rules:

  • Originality: All code and primary mechanics must be written during the hackathon timeline. Pre-existing personal projects or published assets cannot be resubmitted.
  • Open Source & Assets: Use of third-party APIs, open-source libraries, and royalty-free media assets is permitted, provided they are cited in the project documentation.
  • Hardware & Setup: Participants attending the offline round must bring their own laptops, power bricks, and development hardware.
  • Fair Play: Plagiarism, aggressive behavior, or submission after the deadline will result in immediate disqualification.
