The hackathon encourages participants to think beyond conventional approaches, identify practical problems, and develop innovative, scalable, and technology-driven solutions. Whether you are an experienced developer, a creative designer, or someone with a powerful idea, SU HACKS provides a platform to transform ideas into reality.

Participants will work on one of the official problem statements and develop a solution that demonstrates innovation, technical implementation, feasibility, and real-world impact.

Official Problem Statements

PS 1: Smart Campus Resource Management

  • Educational institutions often face difficulties in efficiently managing classrooms, laboratories, equipment, and other shared resources. This can result in scheduling conflicts, underutilization, and inefficient resource allocation.
  • Develop a technology-based solution that helps institutions manage and optimize campus resources effectively. The solution may include intelligent scheduling, real-time availability tracking, automated allocation, analytics, or any other innovative approach that improves the overall efficiency of resource management.

PS 2: Accessible Healthcare Support

  • Accessing reliable healthcare information and appropriate services can be difficult, particularly for people in underserved or remote communities. Many individuals struggle to identify available healthcare resources and receive timely support.
  • Develop a technology solution that helps individuals access relevant healthcare information, discover available services, connect with appropriate support systems, or improve the accessibility of essential healthcare resources.

PS 3: Intelligent Waste Segregation

  • Improper waste segregation remains a major challenge in households, institutions, and public spaces. Mixed waste reduces recycling efficiency and increases environmental pollution.
  • Develop an innovative solution that helps identify, segregate, monitor, or manage different types of waste. The solution should aim to improve waste handling, encourage responsible disposal, and support sustainable recycling practices.

PS 4: Personalized Learning Assistant

  • Students have different learning abilities, interests, and levels of understanding, yet traditional learning systems often follow a single approach for everyone.
  • Develop a technology-based learning solution that can help students identify their learning needs and receive personalized resources, recommendations, guidance, or learning pathways. The solution should aim to make education more engaging, accessible, and effective.

PS 5: Smart Personal Safety System

  • In emergency situations, individuals may not be able to quickly communicate their location or request help. Delays in receiving assistance can significantly increase risks.
  • Develop a reliable technology solution that improves personal safety by enabling faster emergency communication, intelligent alerts, trusted-contact connectivity, or other innovative safety mechanisms. The solution should focus on reliability, accessibility, and real-world usability.

PS 6: Farmer Decision Support Platform

  • Farmers often need to make important decisions regarding crop selection, irrigation, weather conditions, pest management, and market opportunities with limited access to timely and actionable information.
  • Develop a technology solution that helps farmers make better decisions using relevant data and accessible tools. The solution may address crop management, weather insights, irrigation planning, pest identification, market awareness, or other agricultural challenges.

PS 7: Water Conservation and Monitoring

  • Water wastage caused by leaks, excessive consumption, and inefficient usage is a growing concern in homes, institutions, and communities.
  • Develop an innovative system that helps monitor water consumption, identify potential wastage, detect leaks, or encourage responsible water usage. The solution should aim to contribute towards sustainable water management.

PS 8: Financial Awareness for Young Adults

  • Many students and young adults begin managing money without a proper understanding of budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and basic financial planning.
  • Develop an interactive and accessible solution that helps young individuals improve their financial awareness and make better everyday financial decisions. The solution should encourage responsible money management in a practical and engaging manner.

PS 9: Digital Accessibility Solution

  • Digital platforms and services are not always designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities. Barriers in accessibility can limit access to education, communication, employment, and essential services.
  • Develop an innovative technology solution that improves accessibility when interacting with digital platforms, educational resources, or public services. The solution should focus on creating a more inclusive and accessible digital experience.

PS 10: Open Innovation Challenge

  • Innovation is not limited to predefined problems.
  • Participants may identify a significant real-world challenge and develop an innovative, practical, and scalable solution. The selected problem should have a clear purpose and demonstrate the potential to create meaningful impact.
  • Teams choosing this problem statement must clearly define the problem, explain why it matters, and demonstrate how their solution effectively addresses it.

Grand Finale

- Final team presentations, project evaluation, and winner announcement.

What Participants Should Do

  • Select one of the official problem statements.
  • Understand the problem and identify the target users.
  • Develop an innovative and practical solution.
  • Build and demonstrate a working prototype or proof of concept.
  • Clearly explain the technology, implementation, feasibility, and potential impact of the solution.
  • Present the project during the respective evaluation rounds.
