Opportunity brief

Date of Event is 15 October 2026

Event Guidelines & Rules:

General Rules:

  • This is a pair-based coding competition. Each team must consist of exactly 2 participants.
  • Both team members must actively participate in the competition.
  • Participants must have a basic understanding of the Python programming language.
  • The event will consist of 3 rounds:
  • Round 1: Code & Debug
  • Round 2: Constraint Code
  • Round 3: Code Chase
  • The total competition duration will be 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • Participants must follow the instructions given by the event coordinators and judges.
  • Participants must complete the competition independently, using only resources explicitly authorized by the event coordinators.
  • The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools or AI-assisted services is strictly prohibited. This includes chatbots, code generators, code completion tools, debugging assistants, solution generators, and tools that generate, rewrite, explain, or optimize code or answers.
  • Participants must not use unauthorized assistance, including copied code, prewritten solutions, online solution repositories, external help from non-team members, or any other resource that provides an unfair advantage.
  • Participants may be required to explain their code or demonstrate their understanding of the submitted solution. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
  • Organizers may inspect devices, software, browser activity, or submitted code when necessary to verify compliance with event rules.
  • Participants must not bring their own laptops. The required systems will be provided by the organizers.
  • No Verbal or Written Communication: Participants are strictly prohibited from communicating with their teammates or any other participant during all three rounds.
  • Participants must work independently on their assigned tasks without verbal assistance, discussion, or exchange of solutions.
  • Communication with event coordinators or judges is permitted only when necessary to report technical issues or when explicitly authorized.
  • Any form of unfair practice or misconduct may lead to disqualification.

Round 1: Code & Debug

Duration: 30 Minutes

  • One participant will be assigned the task of writing code based on a given output.
  • The other participant will be provided with incorrect code that must be debugged.
  • Both participants will work on their respective tasks simultaneously.
  • Both tasks must be completed successfully for the team to qualify for the next round.
  • Participants must complete their assigned tasks within the allotted 30 minutes.
  • If the participantes want they can swap there role but 30 second will be added to there time.
  • Participants must not use AI tools, unauthorized online resources, external assistance, or prewritten solutions.
  • Participants must remain silent throughout the round, except when communication is explicitly permitted by the coordinators.
  • The submitted code must produce the required output and function correctly within the given time limit.

Round 2: Constraint Code

Duration: 30 Minutes

  • Both participants will be assigned individual coding tasks to complete independently.
  • Each participant will be given code which is already used by their team member in round 1.
  • Participants may be asked to shorten, optimize, or modify the given code according to the instructions.
  • Certain programming constructs, functions, or keywords may be restricted during this round.
  • Examples of restrictions include not using while loops, for loops, specific built-in functions, or other constructs specified by the coordinators.
  • Each participant must ensure that their modified code produces the required output and satisfies all the given constraints.
  • Team members are not allowed to communicate within themselves.
  • Participants must not use alternative methods that violate the stated restrictions.
  • Both participants must complete and submit their respective solutions within the allotted 30 minutes.
  • Qualification Rule: Both participants must successfully complete their individual tasks to qualify for Round 3. If either participant fails to qualify, the entire team will be eliminated.
  • Solutions will be evaluated based on correctness, adherence to constraints, code efficiency, and successful execution.
  • Participants must not use AI tools, unauthorized resources, external assistance, or prewritten solutions.
  • Participants must remain silent throughout the round, except when communication is explicitly permitted by the coordinators.
  • Failure to follow any specified constraint may result in disqualification from the round.

Round 3: Code Chase

Duration: 60 Minutes (30 + 30 Minutes)

  • Each team will be given a problem statement.
  • The first participant will write the initial part of the solution within 30 minutes.
  • After the first 30 minutes, the participants must switch roles.
  • The second participant will continue and complete the code written by the first participant.
  • The first participant must stop coding immediately when the first 30-minute period ends.
  • The second participant will get another 30 minutes to complete the solution.
  • No verbal or written communication is permitted between team members during the switch or throughout the round.
  • The second participant must continue working based on the existing code and the provided problem statement.
  • The second participant may modify, correct, or extend the existing code to complete the problem.
  • The final submission must be made before the total time limit of 60 minutes expires.
  • AI tools, AI-generated or AI-assisted code, unauthorized resources, external assistance, and copied or prewritten solutions are prohibited throughout this round.
  • Participants must remain silent throughout the round, except when communication is explicitly permitted by the coordinators.

Evaluation Criteria:

The performance of participants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Code Correctness: Whether the submitted code produces the expected output.
  • Test Cases Passed: The number of test cases successfully passed by the submitted solution.
  • Problem Understanding: How accurately the solution addresses the given problem statement.
  • Adherence to Constraints: Whether all specified restrictions are followed in the Constraint Code round.
  • Code Efficiency: The logical implementation and appropriate use of programming constructs.
  • Handling of Edge Cases: The ability of the code to handle boundary inputs.
  • Time Management: Completion and submission of tasks within the allotted time.
  • Team Participation: Active involvement of both team members throughout the competition.
  • Rule Compliance: Adherence to all event rules and restrictions.

Note: The detailed scoring system and weightage for each criterion will be announced by the event coordinators.

Disqualification Rules:

A team may be disqualified for any of the following reasons:

  • Using unauthorized resources or external assistance.
  • Using AI tools or AI-assisted services, including chatbots, code generators, debugging tools, code completion tools, or solution generators.
  • Submitting code copied from another source or generated or substantially modified by an AI system or an unauthorized person.
  • Sharing code or solutions with other teams.
  • Attempting to bypass event rules, restrictions, monitoring, or device checks.
  • Using unauthorized software, websites, plugins, extensions, or external communication channels.
  • Violating the specific restrictions given in the Constraint Code round.
  • Engaging in unauthorized verbal or written communication with teammates or other participants during the competition.
  • Interfering with another team's work or receiving unauthorized assistance during restricted periods.
  • Misconduct or failure to follow the instructions of the coordinators or judges.
  • Failing to submit the solution within the allotted time.
  • Being unable to explain or demonstrate an understanding of the submitted code when requested by the judges.
  • Using comment as a hint for their team member.
  • Bringing or using unauthorized personal devices or equipment during the competition.

Final Decision:

  • The judges' decision will be final and binding.
  • Only teams that successfully qualify through the required rounds will be eligible for the final round.
  • The organizers reserve the right to verify compliance with event rules at any stage of the competition.
  • The organizers reserve the right to modify the event rules if necessary, with appropriate notice to participants.
  • Any issue not covered in these guidelines will be resolved by the event coordinators and judges.
