Opportunity brief
About:
An engaging mix of algorithmic strategy, autonomous decision-making, and competitive resource management, this event puts participants in command of programmable rover fleets competing for dominance on an unpredictable battlefield. Participants must design intelligent controllers to explore unfamiliar terrain, gather resources, defend their territory, and outmanoeuvre rival teams. With mechanics ranging from hidden hazards and tactical combat to resource-driven upgrades and enemy vault raids, every decision can shift the balance of the game. The event tests participants' programming skills, strategic thinking, adaptability, and ability to make optimal decisions under uncertainty.
The event will unfold in two stages.
Prelims (Online):
- Format: Submission-based programming round hosted on Unstop. - Description: Participants develop and submit autonomous rover controllers to compete in a head-to-head, turn-based strategy game. The round challenges participants to explore a simulated environment, gather resources, and outmanoeuvre their opponents through intelligent decision-making. Algorithmic thinking, tactical planning, and efficient resource management are key to advancing.
Finals (Offline):
- Format: On-site interactive competition conducted at IIT Madras. - Description: Shortlisted participants compete in a live, turn-based rover strategy game featuring a free-for-all format. Participants must program their rovers to explore the map, mine resources, raid enemy vaults, engage in combat, and manage upgrades to maximise their score. The finals also introduce a dynamic in-game market, adding an economic dimension where participants must make strategic decisions about resource allocation, purchases, and upgrades. Adaptability, tactical thinking, and intelligent resource management will be crucial to securing victory. - Date: To be held during Shaastra 2027 at IIT Madras.
The event follows a team-based format, with 2–3 participants per team, encouraging collaboration in algorithm design, strategic planning, and resource management. Participants must combine their analytical abilities and technical skills to develop competitive rover controllers and devise effective strategies.
