Overview
Campus Market is an interactive quantitative trading simulation in which participants attempt to discover the exact longest length of the college campus in meters. Instead of simply submitting a guess, participants receive virtual money and participate in a live market by buying, selling, and negotiating values based on their estimates and information.
The event is designed to introduce students to practical concepts from quantitative finance and financial markets, including price discovery, market making, risk management, probability, trading strategy, and collective information aggregation.
Objectives
- Introduce students to the basic functioning of financial markets through an engaging activity.
- Demonstrate how prices can emerge from the collective expectations of market participants.
- Encourage logical reasoning, estimation, probability-based thinking, and risk management.
- Increase interaction and participation in activities conducted by Krypsis.
- Provide a fun and accessible introduction to quantitative finance for students from all disciplines.
Rules
- Every registered participant will receive the same amount of virtual starting capital.
- The objective is to estimate the exact longest length of the college campus in meters and use that estimate to make profitable trades.
- Participants may buy, sell, and negotiate trades with other participants during the designated trading period.
- All trades must be recorded through the mechanism provided by the event organizers.
- Unrecorded or disputed trades will not be considered for settlement.
- Participants may use their own reasoning, observations, and publicly available information permitted by the organizers to form their estimates.
- Collusion, manipulation through false reporting, impersonation, multiple registrations, or any attempt to unfairly influence the market is prohibited.
- Participants must not interfere with the physical measurement or obtain restricted information from the organizers before the final measurement.
- The organizers' record of completed trades and final settlement calculation will be treated as final.
- At the end of the trading period, the actual longest campus length will be measured/revealed by the organizers.
- Final wealth will be calculated after settlement of all valid positions. The participant with the highest final wealth will be the primary winner.
- In case of a tie, the tie-breaking mechanism announced by the organizers before the start of the event will be applied.
- The event organizers reserve the right to disqualify participants for rule violations or disruptive conduct.
- All virtual currency used in the event has no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for real money.
