About the Role
We are looking for an Automotive Research Intern who is genuinely curious about how vehicles work and wants to work on a real automotive AI problem.
As part of the team, you will work primarily on the research and development of virtual sensors — software-based systems that estimate vehicle parameters using available vehicle data instead of depending entirely on dedicated physical sensors.
You will research automotive systems, sensor behavior, ECU parameters, OBD/CAN data, and vehicle operating conditions to identify how different signals can be combined to estimate parameters that may not be directly available.
This is a highly research-oriented role where you will work closely with the engineering and product teams and contribute to technology that is being developed for real-world automotive applications.
What You Will Work On
- Research different automotive sensors, vehicle parameters, and system behaviors.
- Understand how physical sensors behave under different driving and operating conditions.
- Study relationships between available vehicle signals and parameters that can potentially be estimated.
- Research and analyze OBD-II, CAN, ECU and diagnostic data.
- Identify opportunities for creating new virtual sensors from existing vehicle data.
- Collect, clean, structure, and analyze automotive datasets.
- Research vehicle-specific characteristics across different manufacturers, models, engines, and variants.
- Help design methodologies for estimating vehicle parameters using available signals.
- Compare virtual sensor outputs with real-world/physical measurements for validation.
- Investigate anomalies, inconsistencies, and unexpected sensor behavior.
- Document research findings and convert them into useful inputs for the engineering team.
- Work with engineers to test, validate, and improve virtual sensor models.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical, and genuinely interested in automobiles.
Preferred Background
- Pursuing a degree in Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of basic automotive systems and vehicle components.
- Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Comfortable researching technical information and working with data.
- Ability to understand and interpret graphs, sensor values, and technical documentation.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
Good to Have
Knowledge or experience in any of the following will be an advantage:
- OBD-II
- CAN / CAN Bus
- ECUs and vehicle diagnostics
- Automotive sensors and signal processing
- Vehicle data logging
- Python or other programming languages
- Data analysis and visualization
- MATLAB / Simulink
- Automotive electronics or embedded systems
- Hands-on experience working with vehicles or diagnostic tools
You do not need to know everything listed above. A strong interest in automotive technology and the ability to learn quickly are more important.
