Cummins is hiring for the role of Software Engineer!

Responsibilities of the Candidate:

- Develop software solutions by studying information needs, consulting with users, analyzing system flows, data usage, and work processes, investigating problem areas, and following the software development lifecycle. - Document and demonstrate software solutions. - Develop flowcharts, layouts, and technical documentation. - Determine solution feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definitions, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions. - Understand business needs and create tools and solutions to address them effectively. - Prepare and implement solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming requirements. - Participate in professional development opportunities, read industry publications, maintain professional networks, and participate in relevant professional organizations. - Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development activities and issues while protecting IT assets and maintaining the confidentiality of information. - Improve applications by conducting systems analysis and recommending appropriate changes. - Define applications and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities across applications, understand solution deployment, and communicate requirements for interactions within the overall solution context. - Define and document Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs). - Understand multiple software architectures and apply appropriate architectural approaches to solutions. - Understand programming and testing standards, as well as industry standards and practices for both traditional and Agile software development.

Requirements:

- Applies security, privacy, and compliance standards, tools, and best practices throughout the design, development, testing, and operation lifecycle while balancing protection, efficiency, and cost. - Applies programming languages, frameworks, and design patterns to develop, configure, test, and maintain efficient, secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions. - Governs, models, secures, implements, and monitors data flows to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance while enabling trusted and scalable data usage. - Applies modern engineering practices and tools, including Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and Infrastructure as Code, to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and reduce risk throughout the SDLC. - Translates business requirements into integrated designs, architectures, patterns, and system interactions that deliver customer value and align with enterprise standards and relevant platforms. - Maintains relevant domain knowledge and proficiency in applicable tools, technologies, methodologies, and frameworks through targeted credentials and rigorous skill development. - Evaluates business and technology trends, anticipates future needs, develops creative approaches, and identifies innovative solutions that create sustainable value while considering cost. - Demonstrates curiosity and enthusiasm for technology by continuously developing technical skills, experimenting with emerging technologies, and identifying opportunities to apply them to improve business performance. - Takes ownership, acts with urgency, and converts objectives into clear plans, decisions, processes, and execution routines while effectively navigating ambiguity and change. - Communicates clearly and purposefully to align stakeholders, encourage collaboration, build trust, and drive coordinated action across teams and functions. - Recognizes and values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and cultures and incorporates them into collaborative working environments. - Maintains a customer-first mindset by connecting customer needs and business priorities to appropriate solutions, delivery, adoption, satisfaction, and measurable value through sustained engagement. - Requires a college, university, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or relevant equivalent experience. - May require licensing or authorization to comply with applicable export control or sanctions regulations. - Experience working as a software engineer through student employment, internships, co-op programs, or extracurricular team activities is preferred. - Experience working in an Agile environment and knowledge of fundamental IT technical skills are preferred. - Ability to take a solution from requirements scoping through development and successful launch is preferred.
