We are building a technology-driven platform and exploring AI-powered systems to improve discovery, personalization, automation, customer support, and marketplace operations.
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated AI Backend Engineer Intern to help build the backend infrastructure that powers Boatigo's AI features.
You will work at the intersection of backend engineering, APIs, databases, AI/LLM integrations, data pipelines, and automation. The role involves building reliable backend services that can connect AI models with real-world product data and applications.
This is ideal for someone who enjoys backend development and wants hands-on experience building AI-enabled production systems, rather than working only on theoretical ML projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs for AI-powered Boatigo features.
- Develop scalable REST APIs and backend services using Python or Node.js.
- Integrate LLMs and AI APIs into backend applications.
- Build backend infrastructure for AI assistants, recommendation systems, search, and automation.
- Work with RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search.
- Design and manage databases for application and AI-related data.
- Build data ingestion, processing, and transformation pipelines.
- Implement authentication, authorization, logging, error handling, and API security.
- Connect AI services with Boatigo's web and mobile applications.
- Optimize API response times, reliability, and scalability.
- Monitor and evaluate AI-generated responses and system performance.
- Work with developers and AI engineers to deploy and maintain AI features.
- Write clean, reusable, well-documented backend code.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python or Node.js/TypeScript.
- Good understanding of backend development and API architecture.
- Experience working with REST APIs and third-party API integrations.
- Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar.
- Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence and LLMs.
- Familiarity with OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, or other AI APIs is a plus.
- Understanding of asynchronous programming and backend services.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to work independently and learn new technologies quickly.
Good to Have
- Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, Express.js, or NestJS.
- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or LangGraph.
- Knowledge of RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search.
- Experience with FAISS, Pinecone, Chroma, Weaviate, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with Redis, queues, background jobs, or event-driven architectures.
- Experience with Docker and cloud deployment.
- Knowledge of AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar cloud platforms.
- Experience building AI agents or multi-step AI workflows.
- Previous backend, AI, or full-stack projects on GitHub.
