Opportunity brief
Overview:
Survive the challenge. Solve the science. Reach the safe zone.
- The Last of Us is an immersive, team-based adventure that puts participants in a post-invasion survival scenario where science and engineering are the key to survival.
- Teams will navigate through a series of challenging checkpoints, each designed around practical concepts from Chemical Engineering, chemistry, physics and process engineering.
- Across multiple hands-on challenges, teams will test their critical thinking, teamwork, agility, creativity and practical problem-solving skills.
- From decoding hidden messages and optimizing chemical reactions to building filtration systems, managing simulated reactor emergencies and generating electrical energy, every challenge brings a new test of skill.
Event Challenges:
- Chemical indicators and pH-based code breaking
- Stoichiometric calculations and reaction optimization
- Pressure and propulsion systems
- Polymer synthesis and material properties
- Mass balance and thermal management
- Density, buoyancy and fluid systems
- Polymer-based filtration and separation
- Aerodynamics and controlled airflow
- Reaction rate and process control
- Packed-bed columns and emergency response
- Electrochemical energy generation
- Teams will progress through designated stations, earning points and collecting components along the way.
- Successfully completing the challenges will bring them one step closer to assembling their final souvenir and reaching the safe zone.
