Opportunity brief

. Event Overview

Robo-Race is an exciting robotics competition where engineering meets speed. Organized by the Karuyantra Robotics Club as part of Karuyantra Carnival, Elysian 4.0 (GGSIPU), the event challenges participants to design and control robots capable of navigating challenging terrains and overcoming obstacles in the shortest possible time.

The competition will consist of one round only, in which all participating teams will compete to complete the designated track as quickly and accurately as possible. Robots will be evaluated based on their completion time, obstacle navigation, control, and adherence to the competition rules. The team achieving the fastest total completion time after applicable penalties will be declared the winner.

  • Eligibility and Team Formation
  • Teams may consist of 1–3 members.
  • Individual participation is permitted.
  • Cross-institute participation is allowed.
  • Inter-college and inter-specialization teams are welcome.
  • A participant cannot be a member of more than one team.
  • Track Specifications

The competition track will feature uneven terrain and obstacles designed to test the robot's mobility, stability, and control.

Possible track elements include:

  • Speed breakers
  • Slippery paths
  • Sand patches
  • Marbles
  • Bridges
  • Gravel traps
  • Inclines
  • Rough patches

Checkpoints will be placed throughout the track to facilitate resets, subject to the competition rules.

Participants should prepare their robots to navigate different terrain conditions and complete the course without skipping obstacles.

4. Problem Statement

Design and operate a manually controlled wired or wireless robot capable of navigating a challenging track containing uneven terrain, inclines, rough patches, and various obstacles.

The robot must overcome the obstacles provided on the track and reach the finish line in the shortest possible time while maintaining stability and control.

Participants are expected to demonstrate effective robot design, precise control, and efficient navigation throughout the course.

The objective is to complete the entire track while minimizing collisions, avoiding penalties, and complying with all competition rules.

5. Competition Format

Single Round

Robo-Race will consist of one competitive round only.

  • All registered teams will participate in the round.
  • Each team will attempt to navigate the designated obstacle course.
  • The robot must complete the track while following the prescribed route and overcoming obstacles in sequence.
  • The timer will start when the robot begins moving and stop when it crosses the finish line.
  • Applicable penalties will be added to the total completion time.
  • The team achieving the fastest total completion time after penalties will be declared the winner.
  • In the event of a tie, the organizers may conduct an additional run or apply another suitable tie-breaking method.
  • Gameplay Rules
  • The competition winner will be determined by the fastest completion time after applicable penalties.
  • The timer will start when the robot begins moving and stop when it crosses the finish line.
  • One restart is permitted for a false start. A second false start will result in disqualification.
  • Robots must complete all obstacles in the prescribed sequence.
  • If more than 20% of the robot moves outside the track, a penalty of 3 seconds will be added for each occurrence.
  • The first three hand touches are permitted without a time penalty. Each subsequent hand touch will incur a 5-second penalty.
  • The first three wall collisions are permitted without a time penalty. Each subsequent wall collision will incur a 5-second penalty.
  • Skipping an obstacle will result in a penalty determined by the difficulty of the obstacle.
  • Deliberate damage to the track, arena, or equipment will result in disqualification.
  • Participants must follow all instructions issued by the organizers and judges during the competition.
  • Penalty System

Infraction

Penalty

Fourth and subsequent hand touches +5 seconds per occurrence

Fourth and subsequent wall collisions +5 seconds per occurrence

Off-track movement involving more than 20% of the robot +3 seconds per occurrence

Skipping an obstacle Penalty based on obstacle difficulty

False start One warning; a second false start results in disqualification

Arena damage or foul play Immediate disqualification

All applicable time penalties will be added to the robot's total completion time.

Participants are advised to maintain proper control of their robots and avoid unnecessary contact with track boundaries and obstacles.

8. Judging Criteria

Teams will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Total Completion Time: Time taken to finish the track, including applicable penalties.
  • Checkpoint Completion: Number of checkpoints cleared if the robot fails to complete the entire track.
  • Smoothness and Control: Stability and effectiveness of robot movement throughout the course.
  • Innovation and Design: Special recognition may be given to innovative robot designs.

The team achieving the fastest total completion time after applicable penalties will be declared the winner.

  • Referee and Judging Authority
  • The referee's decision will be final.
  • Misconduct or arguments with event officials may lead to disqualification.
  • Protests must be raised respectfully and immediately after the concerned run.
  • The organizers reserve the right to change or update the rules depending on the circumstances.
  • All decisions made by the organizing team regarding the competition will be final.
  • Safety and Conduct
  • Practice runs on the main competition track are prohibited before the event unless explicitly authorized by the organizers.
  • Robots must not shed or detach components during operation.
  • Interference with other teams is strictly prohibited.
  • Deliberate damage to the track, equipment, or another team's robot will result in disqualification..
  • All robots must be securely assembled and safe to operate.
  • Participants must follow all safety instructions issued by the organizers.
  • Certification
  • Participation certificates will be awarded to teams that complete at least one official round, subject to the organizers' certification policy.
  • Disqualified teams will not be eligible for participation certificates.
  • Results and Tie-Breaking
  • The team with the fastest total completion time after applicable penalties will be declared the winner.
  • In the event of a tie, the organizers may consider an additional run or another suitable tie-breaking method.
  • The organizing team's decision regarding the final results will be binding.
