Opportunity brief

About TradeVerse

  • TradeVerse is the Flagship Trading Competition organised by FinCell, the Finance and Investment Cell of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, in association with Mochatrade, bringing together ambitious students to test their market instincts and trading acumen in a simulated, real-time environment.
  • TradeVerse puts participants in the seat of active traders, challenging them to interpret market movements, manage risk, and make quick, evidence-backed decisions to maximise portfolio returns under pressure.
  • Participants will be expected to build and defend a sound trading strategy, translating market analysis into actionable trades. Finalists will be required to present their approach through a concise, professionally written strategy report, testing their ability to justify their decisions with clarity and conviction.
  • What makes TradeVerse unique is that it welcomes students across all disciplines, including commerce, management, economics, engineering, and beyond. We believe the sharpest trading decisions emerge when diverse perspectives are brought to the same market data.
  • If you're looking for a competition that goes beyond textbook finance and asks you to think on your feet, manage risk in real time, and back your trades with a real strategy, TradeVerse is where you belong.
  • All rounds of the competition will be conducted online.

Competition Structure

Round 1: The Screener (Quiz)

  • A 30-question online quiz conducted on Unstop, to be completed within 30 minutes.
  • The quiz will assess participants across four areas: financial knowledge, verbal ability, logical reasoning, and quantitative aptitude.
  • There is no negative marking.
  • Only the top-performing teams, as determined by the organising committee, will qualify for Round 2.

Round 2: Live Trading Simulation

  • Qualified teams will trade live on the Mochatrade trading simulation platform, aiming to maximise their Profit and Loss (PnL) over the round duration.
  • Trading will be conducted on US markets. Participants may trade Stocks, ETFs, and Commodities.
  • Starting virtual capital and any platform-specific trading parameters will be communicated to qualified teams prior to the commencement of the round.
  • Teams will be ranked by PnL at the close of the round. Only the top-performing teams will advance to Round 3.
  • Tie-Breaker: In the event of equal PnL, the team that reached the tied PnL figure earliest shall be ranked higher.

Round 3: Final Trading Round + Strategy Report

  • Finalist teams will again trade live on the Mochatrade platform, aiming to maximise PnL over the round duration.
  • Alongside live trading, finalist teams must submit a Strategy Report (maximum of 3 pages) explaining the trading approach, rationale, and risk management strategy used across Rounds 2 and 3.
  • Strategy Report submission deadline: 5th October, 11:59 PM (same as Round 3 close), to be submitted on Unstop.
  • Accepted formats: PDF or DOCX.
  • Final ranking will be determined using a combination of Round 3 PnL and the quality of the Strategy Report, as assessed by the organising committee/judging panel.
