Opportunity brief
Description
Quantum Entropy Challenge is an individual problem-solving competition centered on randomness, uncertainty, probability and entropy in a quantum-computing context.
Participants work through tasks designed to test their ability to interpret probabilistic information, reason about uncertainty and connect basic quantum ideas with quantitative or computational problems. Depending on the final problem set, challenges may involve measurement outcomes, probability distributions, entropy calculations, interpretation of quantum states, random data, simple Qiskit circuits or short analytical questions.
A preliminary qualifier can establish participant readiness and select the required number of participants for the main challenge. The main round will use clearly defined tasks, time limits, answer formats and scoring rules. Evaluation may consider correctness, reasoning where written solutions are requested and completion time as a pre-published tie-break.
The event is designed so participants with introductory quantum knowledge can understand the problem statements while still being challenged to think carefully about randomness and information. The challenge provides a practical way to connect quantum concepts with probability and information-theoretic reasoning without requiring advanced research-level knowledge.
Duration
- Total Duration: 90–120 minutes
Rules & Guidelines
- Each participant competes individually.
- Participants must complete the Entropy/Probability Qualifier before proceeding to the main challenge, if shortlisting is required.
- The qualifier may be used to assess participant readiness and select participants for the main round.
- Questions may cover probability, randomness, entropy, measurement outcomes, quantum states, data interpretation and basic quantum concepts.
- Some problems may involve simple Python/Qiskit-based tasks where specified by the organizers.
- Participants must follow the prescribed answer format for each challenge.
- Participants must submit their answers within the announced time limit.
- Participants may use only the tools, software and reference materials explicitly permitted by the organizers.
- Unauthorized external assistance or collaboration with other participants is not permitted.
- Participants must not share questions, answers or solutions with others during the competition.
- Evaluation will primarily consider correctness and, where applicable, the quality of the submitted reasoning.
- A completion-time tie-break may be used only if announced in advance.
- Participants must not interfere with the systems, materials or activities of other participants.
- Any attempt to gain an unfair advantage may result in disqualification.
- Organizers will provide the detailed problem format, scoring method and permitted resources before the challenge begins.
- The organizers' decision regarding answer verification, scoring and final results will be final.
