Opportunity brief

About QuizAttempt:

  • QuizAttempt is an AI-powered learning and assessment platform for schools.
  • Teachers use QuizAttempt to create quizzes, question papers and worksheets. Students attempt them through simple links, and schools and parents get insights into student performance and learning gaps.
  • The platform is used by 200+ teachers and 5,000+ students, every working day. We are building a real product used by schools - not a demo project. As an intern, you will get the opportunity to work on features that actually become part of the product.

What you'll do:

You will work across both backend and frontend. You may work on:

  • Building new features for teachers, students, parents and schools
  • Developing backend APIs using Java + Spring Boot
  • Working with PostgreSQL and database design
  • Building frontend screens using React + Next.js
  • Fixing bugs and improving existing features
  • Writing tests for the features you build
  • Working with AI/LLM features used inside QuizAttempt
  • Understanding how the different parts of a real production application work together

You will be given features and tasks to work on, but we also expect you to understand why you are building something rather than simply completing tickets.

Our tech stack:

  • Backend: Java 21, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, JPA / Hibernate, Maven, Liquibase
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS
  • Testing and tools: JUnit, Cucumber, Docker, Git and GitHub

You do not need to know all of this before joining.

What we're looking for:

You don't need to know everything. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a good understanding of programming fundamentals
  • Is comfortable with Java, or is willing to learn it
  • Has some experience with React / JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Understands basic databases and SQL
  • Can read existing code and understand how it works
  • Thinks logically and can reason through a problem before writing code
  • Works independently and can figure out unfamiliar parts of a codebase without step-by-step handholding
  • Tries to solve a problem first, then asks clearly when genuinely stuck
  • Is comfortable using Git and GitHub
  • Is curious and likes solving problems
  • Can take a feature from an idea or specification to a working implementation
  • Is willing to learn and ask questions when stuck

You don't need to be an expert. We care more about your ability to learn, think and build. Projects matter more than certificates - if you have built something, even a small project, tell us about it.

AI tools are welcome:

We actively encourage you to use AI tools such as Claude to help you understand code, debug problems, learn new concepts and work faster.

However, AI should be your coding assistant — not your replacement. You should understand the code you submit and be able to explain why it works. Do not blindly copy-paste code generated by Claude or any other AI tool.

QuizAttempt has an existing architecture, coding patterns and design principles that you will need to follow. When building a feature, you should understand the existing codebase and implement your solution within the architecture we have defined, rather than creating a completely different approach just because AI suggested it.

Time commitment:

  • We are looking for interns who can commit 15+ hours per week for the full duration of the internship.
  • This is a hands-on internship. You will be working on the actual QuizAttempt product and will be expected to take ownership of the work assigned to you.
  • Timings are flexible. We do not watch the clock, but the work assigned to you needs to be completed.

Stipend:

  • We have kept this internship unpaid on purpose. The initial motivation should be curiosity, the wish to learn and grow and not the money.
  • What we can promise is an experience of a lifetime. Between us the team has worked in B2B and B2C sales, inside tech startups, and on building a successful, profitable company. You will be working directly alongside that.

What you'll get:

  • Work on a real, live product used by schools
  • Experience with a production-level Java + Spring Boot + Next.js codebase
  • Learn how real software architecture and databases are designed
  • Work with AI/LLM-based product features
  • Learn professional Git, testing and development practices
  • Work directly with the founders
  • Weekly feedback on your code, reviewed by a founder
  • A certificate and a letter of recommendation
  • Flexible work hours, fully remote
  • A full-time offer on strong performance

Please include:

  • What you have built so far
  • Your experience with Java / Spring Boot / React / Next.js
  • Any projects or GitHub links you can share
  • Your availability and confirmation that you can commit 15+ hours per week
  • Two lines on something you built and what broke while you were building it
