Basics Details:
- Title: CAD Battle — Moksha '26
- Tagline: Think in 2D. Build in 3D. Beat the clock.
- Organized by: ASME, NSUT
- Type: Individual, timed CAD competition (no teams)
- Mode and venue: Offline, NSUT college. Mini Audi 1
- Timing: 2:00pm - 3:00pm
- Dates: Event on Day 3 of MOKSHA.
- Rounds: Round 1 — Model Rush
About the Event:
CAD Battle is a fast, hands-on design challenge that tests how well you read drawings, visualize in 3D, and model with precision, all against the clock.
There will be one round: Model Rush, a timed 3D modelling task. Everyone gets the same models, and the same time limit, so it comes down to accuracy, speed, and skill.
Eligibility:
- Anyone can register
- Individual participation only
- Basic familiarity with a CAD software is recommended
Event Flow:
Build a 3D model of a mechanical component from a dimensioned drawing or design brief.
5 models (with their materials and their density given in the question) will have to be made and the weight/mass of the object will be asked to be filled in the google form provided. (there will be a 5% relaxation in the mass/weight of the model, ie if the model should weigh 100gm, both 95gm and 105gm will be accepted as answers)
Expect a single part, such as a stepped shaft, bracket, flange, pulley, or simple mounting block, not a complex assembly.
Scoring (100 points)
- correct mass (with a relaxation of 5%) : 10,20,30 pts depending on the difficulty (easy, medium and hard respectively)
Rules and Regulations:
- The competition is individual.
- Everyone uses the same approved CAD software and version, announced in advance.
- Work only from the task brief and dimensions provided. Any clarification is given to all participants equally.
- Not allowed: external model libraries, pre-made models or templates, generative tools, and help from other participants, unless the organizers explicitly permit it.
- Built-in CAD commands are allowed.
- No talking to other participants about the task once a round begins.
- Save your work regularly and submit before the deadline.
- Do not access or modify another participant's files or workstation.
- Report technical issues to a volunteer immediately. The organizers apply the same policy to everyone when pausing, restarting, or granting extra time.
- Plagiarism, collusion, deliberate disruption, or other rule violations may lead to disqualification. The judges' decision is final.
Tie-breaker:
If scores are tied, the one who uploaded faster will be deemed the winner. If they are still tied, a tie breaker round will be conducted.
Submission Guidelines:
- Submit the native CAD file at minimum, plus an exported PDF or image if the brief asks for one.
- Use the file naming format above.
- A volunteer checks your file name and confirms your submission.
FAQs:
- Prior CAD experience: Basic familiarity with a CAD software is recommended.
- Software to be used: Any software can be used.
- Bringing your own laptop: Yes, you have to bring your own laptop, laptops/workstations will not be provided at the venue.
- Internet access or downloading models: No. All work must be created during the round.
- Software crash: Tell a volunteer right away. The organizers will assess the issue and apply the same policy fairly to everyone.
- Winner selection: based on the mass provided and the time it took to complete the task.
- Files to submit: At minimum, the native CAD file. An exported PDF or image may also be required.
