Opportunity brief

This is a design challenge with a Marvel twist. You get two problem statements, a few days and Figma. Pick one problem and turn it into something people could actually use.

The problems test how well you handle visual hierarchy, information architecture and design systems that still work when they grow. You could end up designing a crisis dashboard for a response team, or a citizen platform. Either way, you finish with wireframes, user flows and a working prototype.

The basics:

  • Dates: 9 to 12 November 2026
  • Mode: Hybrid. External participants join online, and NIT Silchar students can attend offline.
  • Fee: Free
  • Tool: Figma (required)
  • Team size: 1 to 4 people
  • Prizes: Cash prizes, goodies, certificates and national recognition

Who can join

Any undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma student with a valid college ID. Your branch and year don't matter, so engineering, design, management and arts students are all welcome. You can team up with people from other colleges and other fields, or go solo.

How it works

  • Register on Unstop by 9 November and join the official channels.
  • Get your problem on 9 November. The two problem statements go live on Unstop for registered teams, and you choose one.
  • Design. Brainstorm, wireframe, build reusable components and connect your flows in Figma.
  • Submit on Unstop by 12 November. The portal closes when the countdown ends.
  • Results. Industry judges and domain experts review the work, and winners and runners-up are announced at the closing ceremony.

Rules:

  • Your work must be original and made during the hackathon. Pre-made UI kits and full templates from the Figma Community are not allowed. Icon packs like Lucide or Feather and Google Fonts are fine if you credit them.
  • Host everything on Figma and set sharing to "Anyone with the link can view." Broken or locked links will be penalized or disqualified.
  • Copied or previously published work means immediate disqualification.
  • One track only. A UI/UX submission can't also be entered in any other NITS Hacks 9.0 track.
  • The jury's scoring and decisions are final.

What to submit:

  • A Figma file link with your user flows, low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity screens
  • A prototype link that shows the main transitions
  • A style guide covering your type scale, color tokens and components with their variants
  • Optional but recommended: a short case study on your personas, your design decisions and how the solution solves the problem

Why take part:

You present your work to industry judges, next to some of the best design talent on campus. You leave with a complete case study for your portfolio, Behance or Dribbble. You also find out how fast you can prototype when the clock is real. There's a prize pool and a certificate, and the winners get to call themselves UI/UX champions of NITS Hacks 9.0.
