Opportunity brief

Overview:

Build a Financial Empire & Survive Unpredictable Twists of Fate!

About the Event:

Prepare to build a financial empire and survive unpredictable twists of fate in Banks & Bloodlines, a high-stakes test of strategy, risk management, and raw financial instinct!

Teams will transition from evaluating risky loan pitches as top-tier bankers to managing a family's complex investment portfolio through volatile market trends and real-world curveballs.

Competition Structure:

  • Phase 1: The Banks (Qualifiers)
  • Step into the shoes of elite commercial bankers! Evaluate dynamic loan pitches, out-bid rival institutions, and calculate risk to maximize interest returns—all while avoiding companies at risk of bankruptcy.
  • Phase 2: The Bloodlines (Finals)
  • Qualifying teams assume control of a family investment portfolio. Navigate changing market trends and allocate capital across stocks, mutual funds, and physical assets while reacting dynamically to real-world financial curveballs that impact your net worth!

Rules & Regulations:

  • Team Size: Teams must consist of exactly 4 members.
  • Attendance: The competition is an on-campus offline event on Day 2 of Synergy 2026.
  • Phase Progression: Only teams that successfully survive and profit in Phase 1 (The Banks) will advance to Phase 2 (The Bloodlines).
  • Dynamic Twists: Market conditions and external events can change rapidly; teams must adapt their strategy on the fly.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Phase 1 (Risk & Return): Profitability from interest accrued, accuracy in credit risk evaluation, and avoidance of bankrupt entities.
  • Phase 2 (Portfolio Growth): Overall portfolio net worth, risk diversification across asset classes, and strategic adaptability to market shocks.
