Opportunity brief
Overview:
- ARCHWAY ARENA is an exciting bridge-building challenge where aspiring engineers put their structural design, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the test.
- Teams will design and construct a bridge capable of withstanding maximum static load using limited materials.
- Design smart. Build strong. Defy the load.
Problem Statement:
- Design and construct a bridge framework capable of supporting substantial static load.
- The bridge will be tested by suspending weights from a designated central hook.
- The winning bridges will be determined by the maximum static load sustained.
- Total Event Duration: 2 hours
- 90 minutes – Construction
- 30 minutes – Evaluation & Load Testing
Rulebook:
Team Structure:
- Each team can have a maximum of 3 members.
- Every team must include at least 1 and at most 2 Civil Engineering students.
Event Structure:
- ARCHWAY-ARENA will be conducted in two stages.
Round 1 — Online Technical Quiz:
- The team leader will attempt an online quiz consisting of questions related to Structural Engineering and Physics.
- Platform: Unstop
- Date: October 8
- Attempt Window: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Duration: 15 minutes from the time the quiz is started.
- Based on the scores, X teams will be shortlisted for the final round. The number of shortlisted teams will depend on overall participation.
Round 2 — Bridge Construction & Testing:
- Construction Time: 90 minutes
- Teams will construct their bridge using only the materials provided at the venue.
- The completed structures will undergo static load testing.
Building Materials:
- Spaghetti sticks
- Glue
- Clear transparent tape
- Use of any material other than those provided, without prior permission, will result in direct disqualification.
- Participants do not need to bring construction materials.
Bridge Specifications:
- Maximum spaghetti usage: 3 packets per team
- The bridge must span a 50 cm-wide gap.
- The structure will be tested by suspending weights from the central hook.
- Teams must design their bridge to maximize strength and load-bearing capacity while staying within the material limit.
Winning Criteria:
- The top 3 teams whose bridges withstand the maximum static loads will be declared the winners.
- In case of a tie, the team that completes and submits its bridge first will be given preference.
Final Decision:
- The decision of the judges will be final and binding in all matters related to evaluation, testing, and results.
Think like an engineer. Build like a structural designer. Conquer the ARCHWAY.
