Opportunity brief
About the Challenge
From Tokens to Transformers: A Course on GenAI x LLM Mastery is a free, four-week online course organized by the Consulting & Analytics Club, IIT Guwahati, designed to introduce participants to Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI (GenAI), and Large Language Models (LLMs). The program takes learners from the foundations of working with text to understanding how LLMs work and how they are trained, before exploring Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). Designed for students and professionals interested in understanding and building with language models, the course combines three weeks of structured learning with one week dedicated to a practical capstone project. Participants will learn through self-paced modules, weekly assignments, industry expert sessions, and a Discord community for discussions and doubt clearing.

Objectives
- Introduce participants to the fundamentals of NLP and text representation. - Build an understanding of attention, transformers, and large language models. - Explain the foundations of LLM pretraining, fine-tuning, and text generation. - Introduce practical approaches to building applications with RAG and AI agents. - Explore how multiple agents can collaborate to complete tasks. - Help participants apply their learning through weekly assignments and a capstone project.
Why Participate?
- Learn Modern GenAI & LLM Skills: Explore NLP fundamentals, tokenization, word embeddings, attention mechanisms, and transformer architecture. Learn about LLM pretraining, fine-tuning, prompting techniques, RAG (document chunking, embeddings, retrieval), AI agents, tool use, and MAS. Understand basic evaluation of LLM applications and common limitations. - Hands-on Learning Experience: Complete weekly assignments, practical exercises, and a capstone project applying the concepts covered in the course. - Industry Exposure: Attend speaker sessions by industry experts. - Community Environment: Learn alongside peers, ask questions, discuss concepts, and exchange ideas in the dedicated Discord community. - Certifications: Certificates will be provided as part of the course, with details on categories and eligibility shared with participants.
Eligibility & Prerequisites
- Eligible Participants: Students interested in AI, working professionals, developers, data science and machine learning enthusiasts, analysts, consultants, and beginners. - No Restrictions: There are no restrictions based on college, institution, branch, discipline, or academic/professional background. - Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Python is recommended to help participants follow the practical exercises; no prior knowledge of NLP or LLMs is expected. Participants must bring curiosity, a willingness to engage with coding exercises, and a commitment to complete the assignments and project.
